The Associate Programme Specialist, based at UNESCO in Mexico City Office, works within the frameworks of UNESCO’s Medium Term Strategy (C/4), the approved Programme and Budget (C/5), and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Associate Programme Specialist shall advance the SHS work on achieving inclusive economies and societies and the current Flagships on the ethics of science and the Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence and the ethics of neuroscience; the Global Forum and Roadmap on Antiracism; the work on Youth, Sports and Management of Social Transformation (MOST) among others; and create synergies and partnerships with local actions to advance SHS work. Particularly, the incumbent shall undertake the following duties and responsibilities: Programme and Project Support: ------------------------------ **1. Programme and Project Support** - Coordinate in a timely, coherent and integrated manner the implementation and monitoring of the ongoing Social and Human Sciences activities in Mexico. - Develop, plan and implement activities to increase the visibility of Social and Human Sciences in cooperation with the Chiefs of Sections of Social and Human Sciences as well as other Programme Specialists in the Latin America and Caribbean Region. - Contribute to the further development of enhancing intersectoriality in UNESCO Mexico in collaboration with other sectors. - Contribute to programmes and projects through thematic and situational analysis, including analysis and evaluation of project and programme implementation and delivery, identification of areas for improvement and correction, preparation of reports and proposals setting out plans for implementation of programme/project developments. - Identify opportunities for increased intra and inter-sectoral collaboration. - Prepare reports and proposals setting out plans for implementation of programme components/ project developments and monitoring performance against established indicators. - Provide analytical input, including data and statistics to the preparation of programmes, projects, reports on the implementation of programmes and projects (funded within C/5 and extrabudgetary funds) and other briefings as may be required by the UNESCO Field Office or Headquarters, using relevant tools, including the System of Information on Strategies, Tasks and the Evaluation of Results (SISTER). - Provide substantive, logistical and administrative support to programmes, projects, consultations, meetings, events and missions. Research and Knowledge Management: ---------------------------------- **2. Research and Knowledge Management** - Conduct research, compile analysis, data and inputs for publications, documents, projects and policy proposals and recommend elements for integration into section’s strategies and work. - Contribute to ensuring that knowledge management systems are current and content is coordinated and shared with SHS staff regardless of location. - Analyze best practices and current trends to contribute inputs and recommendations to a variety of proposals and reports. - Contribute to public information and awareness raising activities, organizing and participating in supporting outreach tasks researching, writing, feeding social media, and hosting information points. - Invest in personal, professional learning in respect of new trends, and maintenance of personal knowledge and expertise. - Seek exchange, obtain and clarify input and information from other SHS Sections and from Members States, as relevant. Partnerships** - Analyze and compile background data for potential partnerships and fundraising events, dialogues and opportunities. - Carry out backstopping in support of collaborative activities related to partnerships for colleagues at Headquarters, Field Offices and other Sectors. - Identify opportunities or areas for increased collaboration; throughout SHS initiatives and strategies, within broader UNESCO goals and inter disciplinary/Sector approaches. - Upload to automated systems (SharePoint) and other platforms the institutional memory of own Section. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Communication (C) Accountability (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- **Education** - Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in humanities, social and human sciences, international relations/governance, or closely related fields. **Work Experience** - Minimum two (2) years of relevant professional experience in project management within the area of social and human sciences, of which preferably at least one (1) year acquired at the international level. - Minimum one (1) year of relevant professional experience in Latin America and the Caribbean and proven knowledge of the political, social, economic and cultural context of Mexico. - Experience in one of the following domains: management of social transformations, social inclusion, intercultural dialogue, bioethics and ethics of science and technology, youth and sport, including UNESCO’s norms and standards related to these domains. - Experience in results-based project design and management in a multilateral context and planning, development and implementation of programmes and projects. **Skills and Competencies** - Good analytical, organizational and project management skills. - Excellent coordination and interpersonal skills. - Good analytical skills with ability to undertake research including the collection and synthesis of information from various sources. - Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present findings and recommendations on issues clearly and concisely. - Good interpersonal skills with ability to build and maintain effective partnerships at all levels. - Ability to work effectively in a team and to maintain good working relations within a multi-cultural environment. - Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet tight deadlines. - Good IT skills, including knowledge of standard office software. **Languages** • Excellent knowledge (spoken and written) of English and Spanish. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- **Work Experience** • Experience with UNESCO’s intergovernmental processes and procedures. • Experience in UNESCO’s programmes and/or normative tools in the field of social and human sciences. • Experience with the United Nations System, multilateral settings/cooperations and development. • Experience with inter-agency mechanisms of the United Nations System. **Languages** • Knowledge of another official language of UNESCO (Arabic, Chinese, French and/or Russian). **BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS** ----------------------------- UNESCO’s salaries are calculated in US dollars.
