(Associate) Operations Officer

Description

With climate change a strategic pillar of the IFC’s business, the Climate Business Department (CBD) is charged with helping IFC build its portfolio in climate business. CBD is a centrally positioned group responsible for supporting business development across IFC for climate projects, as well as positioning IFC externally (including with the Board and other MDBs) and coordinating with the World Bank Group.

The Climate Business Department is recruiting an Associate/Operations Officer to support the Senior Manager and industry specialists with industry research and analysis, product development, business development, marketing, and upstream project development and operational support.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The position will be based in Washington, DC. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Support the Senior Manager and Climate Industry Specialists in developing and presenting research related to renewable energy, energy efficiency, waste management, energy storage and new technologies, eMobility, and other emerging new Climate areas

• Conduct market and company research that contributes to the climate business development strategies

• Gather, synthesize, and manage data required for climate reports and presentations

• Develop presentations and pitchbooks, and marketing and communications materials as needed.

• Support business development activities

• Review and support regional, sector, and country strategies to ensure they reflect corporate priorities with respect to Climate Business in coordination with industry and regional IFC colleagues

• Contribute to Department thought leadership through the creation of content for talking points, blogs, social media, and podcasts

• Promote CBD as a top-tier resource on climate and investment both internally and externally by contributing to strategy development, participation in climate initiatives with partners, and supporting department events.

Selection Criteria

• Master’s degree in Business, Environmental Studies, International Relations, Development Economics, or a related field.

• Minimum 5 years of work experience related to climate business (renewable energy, energy efficiency, eMobility, green buildings, climate finance, solid waste management, cleantech, agriculture). Familiarity with current developments and technologies in climate business sectors

• Strong grasp of development finance and the role of the private sector in emerging market development. Understanding of IFC investment and advisory services, including measurement of development impact

• Experience in research and market analysis

• Excellent writing skills and verbal and visual communication skills (including mastery of PowerPoint, Excel, and Word)

• Knowledge of social media platforms and experience in utilizing them as communication channels

• Ability to deliver at a consistently high level under tight deadlines while managing multiple projects

• Team player with strong client focus and proven capacity to build and manage effective relationships with clients and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds

• Demonstrated initiative, self-motivation, creative thinking, and a readiness to look for ways to add value

• Fluent communication skills in both spoken and written English; additional languages skills (including, but not limited to, Mandarin, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian) are an advantage.
