In 2023, due to an alarming increase of violence caused by armed groups, 5.8 million people are displaced in the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu and Tanganyika, in the east of the country. UNHCR calls for concerted action and more international support and equitable responsibility sharing to address the causes and impact of displacement, especially with those countries that are hosting most of the world’s displaced.

During the first half of 2023, the Kalemie Sub-Delegation remained active within the humanitarian community in the protection and search for lasting solutions to the situation of refugees, asylum-seekers and people at risk of statelessness, as well as in peaceful cohabitation and peace-building in its area of coverage in the provinces of Greater Katanga.

In addition, as lead of the "protection of civilians and human rights" thematic group, the office has operationalized the specific working group on durable solutions to better coordinate interventions in this field.

In addition to the MONUSCO transition plan and the United Nations joint work plan in Tanganyika province, the UNHCR Kalemie sub-delegation actively participated in other forums, such as the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), other forums such as the operationalization of NEXUS and its 4 clusters (Food Security and Nutrition, Access to Basic Social Services, Population Displacement and Gender-Based Violence), the Tanganyika Provincial Development Plan and the two-year plan reflecting the provincial government's short-term priorities.
