This major milestone presents an institutional opportunity to enhance the public awareness about living heritage as well as engage with communities, custodians and diverse stakeholders to recognize the past achievements. The anniversary also brings new, long-term collaborative avenues with public and private actors to reinforce outreach beyond the landmark year. Under the overall authority of the office of the Assistant Director General for Culture, under the direct supervision of Chief of the Living Heritage Entity and in close collaboration with the Division for Communications and Public engagement (CPE) for UNESCO, as well as the Cities, Communication and Events Unit (CCE) of the Culture Sector, the incumbent will operate as Associate communications Officer and shall contribute to various anniversary-related communications actions as well as integrate and harmonize such actions within the ongoing communications and outreach efforts under the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Within this context, the incumbent will: Long Description ---------------- **A. Twentieth anniversary of the 2003 Convention** - Development of communication materials and content \- Conceptualization, development and customization of multilingual communication tools and material to diverse stakeholders and audiences in diverse formats (e.g. print, audio-visual and digital); \- Drafting, editing of texts and audiovisual materials for the press, the web and social media, followed by appropriate validation \- Quality control and implementation of communications standards as defined by the division for Communications, including visual identity, logo and communications guidelines, throughout ICH outreach efforts. \- Dissemination of anniversary communications tool kits, in particular: Strategic and wide dissemination of above tools to existing as well as newly-identified stakeholders, and subsequent provision of support for their utilization; \- Act as a liaison officer between the Division for Communications and the Living heritage Entity, on all matters pertaining to the celebration of the anniversary. Long Description ---------------- - Support for online and offline events, campaigns and evergreen content including: \- Preparation of diverse written materials such as key messages, articles, social media posts, event announcements, talking points, media advisories and press releases, followed by appropriate validation ; \- Contribution to concept note preparation and stakeholder consultation, as well as assistance with internal and external liaison leading up to events and campaign launch; \- Technical and logistical backstopping to CLT Sector colleagues and UNESCO Field Offices, partners and stakeholders concerning the anniversary-related occasions. \- Development of publications in cooperation with CPE publications team. Long Description ---------------- **B. General communication and outreach under the 2003 Convention** - Coordinate the day-to-day communications and outreach actions under the 2003 Convention \- Coordinate with CPE digital content team on the delivery of the promotional content requires. \- Produce and/or edit, in English, web news and content for UNESCO website, coordinate the translation, identify the appropriate photos and their copyright information for each web content and upload them on to the knowledge management system for the website of the 2003 Convention; \- Develop, in close collaboration with CPE social media team, social media content that fit within the overall UNESCO social media strategy, to raise the awareness of the importance of safeguarding intangible cultural heritage among the general public, especially targeting youth \- Provide media assistance in the day-to-day requests from the press, in close collaboration with CPE press team; \- Monitor media coverage by collecting the necessary data to evaluate the impact and outreach of the communication and outreach activities as well as communication tools and materials of the 2003 Convention; - Coordinate the medium-term communications and outreach actions under the 2003 Convention: \- Research and compile a list of potential media outlets and visibility platforms for the wide dissemination of the communication and outreach tools of the 2003 Convention; \- Establish a photo and video repository by undertaking the selection of high-quality usable audio-visual material for communication purposes; - Provide backstopping to CLT Sector colleagues and UNESCO Field Offices, where necessary, in their communication and outreach activities related to Living Heritage; - Support any additional coordination activities that may be required to ensure the successful communications and outreach actions under the 2003 Convention. **C. Provide administrative support as needed, including:** - Liaison with graphic designers, content developers, translators, producers, printers and other service suppliers; - Establishment and management of contracts, call for proposal launches, potential partner identification, in liaison with the Division for Communications, to ensure synergies and avoid overlapping in communication expenses. - Management of travel arrangements for relevant events; **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- ***EDUCATION*** - Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in the field of culture, international relations, social sciences, humanities, political science, or a related discipline. ***WORK EXPERIENCE*** - A minimum of one (1) year of relevant professional experience in the field of Communication and Information, culture or humanities, of which preferably acquired at international level. - Experience in designing, implementing, and managing programmes and projects in the field of culture. ***SKILLS/COMPETENCIES*** - Analytical skills to conceptualize issues, process data and synthesize information in coherent and succinct format. - Excellent written and oral communication skills, in particular the ability to collect, synthesise and analyse information from various sources and on this basis draft working and information documents in a clear and concise manner. - Good adaptation skills to multicultural working environment and ability to communicate sensitively and effectively across different constituencies (national, local partners, donors/partners, project stakeholders, experts etc.). - Strong interpersonal skills, discretion, integrity and tact, particularly when faced with politically sensitive issues. - Ability to effectively convey and share ideas with others adapting the style, content and tone to suit the audience. - Ability to take initiative and to manage competing priorities, organize and prioritize workloads and to meet established and short deadline with a strong capacity for accuracy, close attention to detail and quality of work. - Good IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Outlook, etc.) ***LANGUAGES*** - Excellent knowledge (both oral and written) of English or French and good knowledge of the other language. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- ***WORK EXPERIENCE*** - Relevant professional experience in the United Nations System or other international development organization(s). - Experience in organizing and promoting international events, projects and meetings, including statutory meetings of governing bodies and the preparation of statutory working and information documents and decisions. ***SKILLS/COMPETENCIES*** - Good Knowledge of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. ***LANGUAGES*** - Good knowledge of another/other UNESCO official language(s) (Arabic, Chines, Russian or Spanish). **SELECTION AND RECRUITMENT PROCESS** ------------------------------------- Please note that all candidates must complete an on-line application and provide complete and accurate information.
