Primary Purpose of Job:

The Assistant WASH Engineer supports the WASH Engineer in ensuring the effective operation, maintenance, and functionality of WASH infrastructure and services in Rohingya refugee camps. The role focuses on maintaining water distribution systems, solid waste management sites, and focal sludge management (FSM) facilities, while ensuring proper supervision of field workers, equipment management, and coordination with community stakeholders. The position contributes to reliable WASH service delivery in line with UNICEF LTA standards and the World Vision Bangladesh Refugee Crisis Response (BRCR) program priorities.

Key Deliverables:

  • Support the implementation of operation and maintenance plans for WASH facilities, including water distribution networks, solid waste management sites, and fecal sludge management systems.
  • Ensure continuous functionality and proper maintenance of WASH facilities in assigned blocks or camps.
  • Monitor equipment usage and ensure regular servicing and replacement when required.
  • Supervise daily laborers and solid waste management (SWM) volunteers to ensure hygienic conditions within assigned camps.
  • Support the management and monitoring of waste collection, composting, and fecal sludge management operations.
  • Provide on-the-job training and coaching for SWM, FSM, and repair workers to improve operational efficiency and service quality.
  • Support the WASH Engineer in implementing technical guidance for field teams.
  • Verify the quality of materials and equipment received from vendors to ensure compliance with project standards.
  • Ensure careful use, maintenance, and timely replacement of equipment required for WASH operations.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly work plans for operation and maintenance of WASH services in assigned camps.
  • Support the implementation of WASH activities in accordance with UNICEF and sector standards.
  • Maintain coordination with community leaders, Majhi, Imam, and camp authorities to ensure effective WASH service delivery.
  • Engage with WASH committees and stakeholders to promote community participation in facility maintenance and hygiene practices.
  • Conduct regular monitoring of WASH facilities and field activities.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly operation and maintenance reports and monitoring updates for program management.
  • Maintain proper documentation of WASH activities and service performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Implementation of the WASH services:

  • Have working background preferably in the Rohingya refugee settings mostly in managing WASH activities in the UNICEF camps.
  • Familiar with the UNICEF’s working modality.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly work plan for the operation and maintenance of WASH facilities in his/her assigned block/camps that are included but not limited to water distribution network, solid waste management sites and FSMs
  • Manage daily labor & SWM volunteers to ensure hygienic environment in the assigned block/camps
  • Conduct capacity building training/On-job coaching for SWM/FSM/repair workers
  • Ensure 100% functionality of WASH facilities in the assigned block/camps
  • Validate quality materials are received in the field from vendors/other stakeholders
  • Ensure the careful use, regular servicing and appropriate replacement of all equipment for the assigned project.
  • Working knowledge of SWM, composting, inorganic waste management, focal sludge management in the camps.

Partnership & Coordination:

  • Ensure close liaison & consultation with Communities leaders, Imam, Majhi during implementation of the WASH services.
  • Prepare and maintain weekly/monthly O&M report, monitoring reports etc.

Educational Qualification: Diploma or B.SC in civil engineering.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Familiarity with the issues around water, sanitation and hygiene related issues and behaviors.
  • Familiarity with protection issues in WASH, gender & Inclusion in WASH and accountability to affected persons programming
  • Familiarities of using KoBO/other online survey tools and methods of data collection.
  • Excellent coordination capacity with individuals and community group
  • Excellent spoken Chittogonian or Rohingyan, desirable.
  • Must be ready to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Appropriate communication skill and approachable
  • Must have no history of violation of children rights

Experience: 1-2 years’ relevant work (WASH) experience, preferably 1 years in the humanitarian settings.

Work Environment: Must be able to do multiple tasks and willingness to travel in various locations of Bangladesh Rohingya Crisis Response ( BRCR) as required.

Salary: Negotiable Availability: Candidates with immediate joining availability will be given preference. Workplace: On-site (office-based)

Number of position: 04 Employment Status: 6‑month contractual position, with the possibility of extension subject to donor approval.
