The idea of Social Vulnerability is well established in humanitarian sciences and helps to identify exposed population groups to natural hazards or external shocks. SDG AI Lab has developed a methodology to assess Social Vulnerability and wants to make them interactively accessible to a wide range of users. This requires the development of a data visualization and analysis tool based in a web browser. We will be working in a SCRUM based process and try to iteratively explore the solutions for the problem. Our partners will be leading the decision-making process and set goals and targets to the team of volunteers to achieve the required outputs. The Lab provides in-house expertise, resources, and research support to various UNDP projects to mainstream digital transformation to development problems and to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

SDG AI Lab is working on the concept of Social Vulnerability and will launch a product based on the idea. The applicant will help us to execute the full software development life cycle (SDLC), produce specifications and determine operational feasibility, develop flowcharts, layouts and documentation to identify requirements and solutions for our product. The applicant will support the frontend development team in the practical implementation of the desired outputs and will work together closely with our experts on the topic.

Bachelor’s (or higher) in Software Engineering or similar. Practical experience in software development is a must. Experience in usage of common applications and principles of software development, such as the development of Systems Requirements Specification Documents, wireframes, mockup charts are required. Experience developing web applications using at least one popular web framework, Frontend development might be required), hence skills in JavaScript, Python, HTML (depending on the framework chosen).
