The solutions mapping platform is an adaptation of an internal database of solutions mapped related to the topic of solid waste management and circular economy at a national level. This mapping process built on existing mapping exercises, as well as new solutions identified as part of the process. The process was mostly desk-based, resulting in over 200 solutions and more 300 georeferenced points in the map. However, a validation process allowed to verify and curate only 40 of those solutions. The intention of this tool is to generate a general view of the landscape of solutions related to this topic in the country, and foster collaborations across actors at a territorial level. There is a current exploration process with key stakeholders to incorporate additional layers of data and features that allow for a better understanding of territorial dynamics, while there is also an identified need to make it more visually appealing and usable for citizens that are not necessarily interested in data, but in how the solutions could respond to their needs.

This opportunity is a request for feedback and assessment of opportunities for the improvement of the 1.0 version of the solutions mapping platform for solid waste management in Panama. It implies the review of information processes and flows, database, layers, visualization and features that the platform could improve in the future. As part of this assessment, we want to explore the feasibility to transition this ArcGIS platform to one that is open source and incorporates other layers of information that helps the ecosystem of actors in taking more articulated and informed actions.
