What we are looking for
The purpose of the Area Manager position is to ensure high quality and cost-effective programme/project implementation within the designated geographical area

What you will do
The following is a brief description of the role:-
Assess needs, develop emergency response and implement response plans
Ensure optimal use of resources within the allocated project budgets and CC strategies
Represent NRC and networking on area level.
Ensure the inclusion of cash-based interventions and marked based programmes in country and area-based strategies and their implementation across and within NRC’s core competencies
Provide an enabling environment for the implementation of cash-based interventions, including multi-purpose cash assistance, emergency cash responses
Lead humanitarian access negotiations resulting in opening of new geographical areas
Manage relationships with local authorities, communities and other humanitarian players in Herat and Badghis provinces.
Advocate for increased humanitarian attention to the evolving situation in Herat and Badghis provinces.
Ensure optimal use of resources within the allocated project budgets and CC strategies

What you will bring
1. Professional competencies
Minimum 3-5 years of experience from working as a Senior Manager in a humanitarian/recovery context
Bachelor degree in Management and Master degree is preferred.
Knowledge of cash-based interventions and market based programmes
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
Fluency in English, both written and verbal
Context/skills, knowledge and experience:
Knowledge of the context in Afghanistan
Knowledge of the local languages (Dari and Pashto) will be an added advantage
Experience with start-up and principled humanitarian negotiations
Relevant education, preferably in management, social sciences or international development
Willingness to travel to project sites in the Western Region

What we offer
• Duty station: Herat, Afghanistan
• Contract: 24months
• Travel: up to 50%
• Salary/benefits: grade 10 on NRC’s salary scale
