- Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications and email/internet; familiarity with database management.

- Have affinity with or interest in children and youth empowerment, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
Contract
This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.
The Office of Emergency Programme (EMOPS) provides strategic and coordinated support to Country Offices preparing for and responding to humanitarian crises, in collaboration with Regional Offices, to ensure that they have the right capacities to respond effectively and deliver on its Core Commitments to Children in Humanitarian Action (CCCs). EMOPS leads efforts to ensure that UNICEF’s role in complex emergencies and natural disasters is clearly defined, that the organisation is properly equipped to fulfil that role, and that all levels of the organisation are prepared to deliver our mandate.
The Risk Analysis and Preparedness Section (RAPS) in EMOPS main purpose is to support UNICEF in being ready to meet the CCCs in humanitarian emergencies and thus to contribute to UNICEF’s general ability to assess and adapt to a multitude of risks. RAPS’ aim is to help UNICEF be best prepared and impactful in saving and protecting lives, and in reducing children’s vulnerability around the world.
This UNV assignment is part of UNICEF’s work on Anticipatory Action (AA). UNICEF is actively enhancing its and partners’ capacity to contribute to AA across different contexts for diverse crises like droughts, storms, floods, and cholera in key sectors such as WASH, Nutrition, Education, Child Protection, Health, and Social Policy (cash) and cross cutting areas including gender, disability inclusion, accountability to the affected population. Anticipatory Action (AA) is a set of pre-planned and pre-financed interventions taken prior to the onset of a crisis and based on a set of pre-defined triggers. RAPS is seeking a national UNV to support its work in Anticipatory Action (AA).
Under the direct supervision of the Emergency Specialist, the UN Volunteer will: • Keep track of and update the project list, map and data sheet on Anticipatory Action (AA). • Establish a process for collecting updated information, data, knowledge and communication products from the country and regional offices. • Develop and update programme guidance on AA for different country typology and for different hazards. • Act as a focal point for updating different knowledge and communication products on AA such as regional papers, sectoral papers, human interest stories etc. • Act as a focal for updating AA SharePoint and website. • Support AA specialist for writing project concept notes and proposals on AA. • Support AA specialist for integration of AA into UNICEF plans, procedures and programmes. • Support AA specialist for developing and implementing a capacity building strategy on AA for staff and partners. • Performs other duties as required.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
- Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day, 5th of December).
- Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country.
- Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities (for instance at https://vra.unv.org),
- Contribute articles/wrjte-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
- Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers.
- Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

The UN Volunteer will be based in Istanbul for this full-time assignment. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. Summary of National UN Volunteer (National Youth) Entitlements: Paid in Local Currency
• Current Monthly Living Allowance (MLA) is USD 1,088 (disbursing in Turkish Lira) • Private insurance: Health, dental, life and dismemberment coverage by CIGNA As per the UN’s diplomatic mission status, it is not included in the National Security Institution’s (SGK) system, but can only be initiated on a private basis by UN Volunteers. • Entry allowance (one-time payment): USD 400 • Exit allowance: USD 113 per month and upon the satisfactory completion of assignment • Annual leave: 2.5 days accrued per calendar month • Free access to different learning platforms and UN & UNV network

The purpose of the allowances and entitlements paid to UN Volunteers is to enable UN Volunteers to sustain a secure standard of living at the duty stations in line with United Nations standards without incurring personal costs. Remarks: In addition to duty station specific vaccine requirements, appointments are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the appointment. It does not apply to UN Volunteers who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their contracts.
