- A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in the field of livestock and animal health management, project coordination, and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
- Full proficiency/Working knowledge of English.
- Very good communication in English and Malay language skills.

The FAO Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) Regional and Country Teams are dedicated to working with governments in preventing and controlling transboundary animal and zoonotic diseases and other animal health threats by working closely with national and international stakeholders in the animal production and health sectors. The tasks envisaged for this consultancy are to be carried out in close coordination with the FAO RAP ECTAD, which is currently implementing several projects in various countries in Asia and the Pacific, including Malaysia.
Reporting Lines
The incumbent will be under the overall supervision of the Regional Manager of the Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) in the FAO’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP), direct supervision of the ECTAD’s Regional Project Coordinator (OSRO/RAS/404/USA), with administrative guidance of the project Budget Holder, and work in close collaboration with the Project’s technical staff and the FAO team members at regional level.
This position will be based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Technical Focus
The Animal Health Coordinator will be tasked to coordinate and facilitate the implementation of activities of the OSRO/RAS/404/USA project for Malaysia component.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Serve as a key contact and coordination person for the overall implementation of project activities implemented in Malaysia, ensuring close coordination between FAO RAP, relevant Agencies, and Ministries of the Malaysian Government, and other relevant partners and stakeholders. This includes organizing regular coordination calls and virtual meetings. • Support the overall implementation of the OSRO/RAS/404/USA project for Malaysia component, coordinate the preparation of a joint country work plan for Malaysia, of projects quarterly and annual reports and of relevant communication and outreach products such as briefs, speeches, presentations, reports, and public information materials related to the projects. • Monitor progress against the work plan by tracking activities and targets with periodical review and revision as necessary. • Provide technical and coordination lead in the preparations and rollout of capacity building activities, workshops, trainings and other events identified in the projects in close coordination with Government counterparts and all projects’ partners. This includes the identification of the appropriate participants, identification of suitable venues and facilities, budgeting and management of the logistical arrangements. • Coordinate the preparation and implementation of the Surveillance Evaluation Tool (SET) in Malaysia, including the engagement with relevant national stakeholders, the collection of the relevant information and documentation, organization of consultation workshops and meetings. • Coordinate the preparation and implementation of laboratory biosafety assessment in Malaysia, and the organization of specific biosafety training workshop with national and sub-national laboratories. • Contribute to development and production of advocacy and communication materials to promote and enhance visibility of the project, FAO, and its resource partner. • Perform any other related duties as requested.
