Organizational Setting

The primary objective of this Project is to increase nationally produced high-quality feed using locally produced ingredients and to further support critical stakeholders in effectively monitoring the quality of feed produced with local ingredients.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Jamaica and the technical supervision of the FAO SLC Livestock development officer, and in close coordination and collaboration with the Project Implementation Unit (PIU), the Animal feed specialist will perform the following activities:

Technical Focus

Agronomy, livestock, animal feed

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Finalize the feed assessment tool to complete a comprehensive assessment of the available ingredients for animal feed in the country.
  • Organize and lead the training of national surveyors, laboratory personnel and extension officers in the completion of the feed ingredient assessment using the feed ingredient assessment tool.
  • Supervise the national feed ingredient assessment in close collaboration with the LTO ensuring all data is collected and stored efficiently.
  • Develop the feed ingredient assessment report.
  • Support the IT consultant to develop a digital feed ingredient inventory using the assessment results.
  • Conduct an analysis of the requirements for production expansion and opportunities for processing the ingredients found in the assessment.
  • Develop relevant awareness material for year 1 of the project with the specific targets being at least 2 different types of printed promotional material and at least 1 media release in each participating country. There should be specific attention to include awareness material that indicates the importance of insect production for the livelihoods of women and youth.
  • Monitor and ensure timely and effective implementation of the communications plan in close collaboration with the national communications specialist.
  • Participate in all project team meetings and provide meeting notes.
  • All other activities about logistics and organization of relevant project activities.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • An advanced degree in agriculture, livestock, livestock feed, agronomy or a related area
  • At least five years’ experience in project management and implementation.
  • Working knowledge of English.
  • National of Jamaica or a resident in the country with a valid work permit.
