Context****:

We are looking for an experienced Advocacy & Communication Adviser to revise and implement the advocacy and communications strategy and action plan for the Better Learning Programme (BLP), NRC’s classroom-based psychosocial support programme. The strategy and action plan will be based on NRC’s ‘Right to Wellbeing-2025’ initiative to roll out BLP across all NRC regional and country offices and raise the profile of the programme and position NRC as a key psychosocial support actor.

What you will do****:

Some of your day-to-day tasks will include:

• Support NRC global, regional, and Country Offices to develop policy recommendations and advocacy products and initiatives (reports, briefings, events and conferences etc.)
• Explore and utilize innovative and emerging communication tools and new media in support of the BLP advocacy and communication strategy framework.
• Develop plans for increasing the profile of BLP through audio-visual material to broadcast and social media, including supporting the update of regional pages on the NRC website and other platforms and the development of quarterly newsletters and videos to support the BLP implementation.
• In collaboration with the Head of Unit and the Research and M&E Adviser, work with the partner universities to ensure data sharing, analysis and re-elaboration of research to pitch at conferences, workshops and learning platforms.
• Participate in all BLP grants related (review, opening, closing, evaluation etc.) meetings
• Train regional/country office staff in content gathering (case studies, multimedia, etc.), and help with capacity building of staff and partners across NRC country offices, in collaboration with the Head Office Advocacy and Media Section.
• Act as an advocate for trauma-sensitive reporting and provide capacity building to comms/advocacy colleagues on the Trauma-sensitive reporting field guide developed with the Dart Center.

What you will bring

• Minimum 5 years of experience in media, communications and advocacy in relation to development cooperation/humanitarian emergencies.
• Experience developing policy recommendations to donors, national authorities and aid actors drawing on programme evidence and experience.
• Extensive technical knowledge and experience in content collection including filmmaking and photography with full proficiency in Adobe’s Creative Suite.
• Excellent digital and design skills with full proficiency in email marketing platforms such as MailChimp.
• Experience in interviewing individuals from crisis-affected communities.
• At ease coordinating with teams of advocacy, communications and media colleagues across the globe often with tight deadlines, supporting, mentoring and ensuring highest quality standards and consistency throughout all our advocacy and communications work.
• Knowledge of relevant thematic areas (Education and psychosocial support).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability or experience in conceptualising and producing new creative advocacy, communication and media products.
• Good understanding of the NRC’s contexts and the ongoing crises.
• Natural networker with substantial experience of building relationships.
• Experience working in difficult and hostile environments.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively to all areas of the region where the programme will be implemented, on a regular basis.
• Knowledge of education in emergency and psychosocial support and social-emotional learning is preferable.
