Job description

Worldwide, nearly 2 billion people are at risk of food insecurity, and around 690 million people suffer from hunger and malnutrition, especially in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. To address these challenges and fight the causes, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development commissioned various global projects including the Global program 'Food and Nutrition Security, Enhanced Resilience', which is active in 10 countries. The Burkina Faso country program is aiming to improve the nutritional situation of vulnerable people and reinforcing nutrition governance through a multisectoral approach. Fields of action include the promotion of nutrition governance regarding Large-Scale Food fortification (LSFF) to reduce micronutrient deficiencies in Burkina Faso as well as in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) region through cooperation with the West African Health Organization (WAHO).

Your tasks

  • Advise the WAHO on conceptual issues related to LSFF to strengthen standards and regulations of fortified foods including labelling
  • Provide technical advice and support to WAHO in the evaluation of learning experiences with LSFF from ECOWAS countries and in their utilization
  • Support capacity strengthening and advisory services to WAHO
  • Assist WAHO in communicating and feeding back lessons learned to the national alliances for fortification in ECOWAS countries, with particular focus on mainstreaming ECOWAS and Burkina Faso policies
  • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders of the project
  • Monitor activities by the project in support of WAHO
  • Develop papers, presentations, and publications
  • Organize meetings and conferences to exchange and communicate lessons learned and best practices
  • Support the project team in the field of governance and communication/advocacy

Your profile

  • Degree in the field of public health, nutritional sciences or comparable fields of study
  • Many years of professional experience, of which at least 5 in advising governmental or supra-regional institutions in the field of health or food/nutrition security
  • Professional experience with health/nutrition policies and governance in the ECOWAS region
  • Sound technical expertise in large-scale food fortification as well as with implementation modalities on national and regional levels
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills as well as high consulting competence
  • High diplomacy and negotiating skills
  • Business fluent in English and French
