This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

The UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and Arab Region (the “Centre”), Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) serves as a regional hub and center of excellence in the areas of human rights training, education, and documentation. It contributes to the implementation of OHCHR’s mandate in the region by: -Strengthening the application of human rights norms, skills, and values in the region through education, training, and documentation; -Strengthening the effectiveness of human rights education and training by OHCHR, UN partners, and regional and national actors through the application and dissemination of best-practice methodologies; -Facilitating knowledge management in OHCHR’s key areas of engagement in the region.

The UNV assignment will support the Centre in implementing its work plan on time and within budget.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Head of the Centre or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Administrative Assistant will:

General Administration: •Draft routine correspondence •Maintain files of rules, regulations, administrative instructions and other related documentation •Maintain up-to-date work unit files (both paper and electronic) •Coordinate extensively with programme units and liaise frequently with internal team members in the field and at headquarters •Budget and Finance •Review status of relevant expenditures and compares with approved budget •Review requisitions for goods and services to ensure that correct objects of expenditure have been charged and availability of funds •Assist in the preparation of budget performance submissions Human Resources •Initiate, process, monitor, review and follow-up on actions related to the administration of the office’s human resource activities (e.g., recruitment, placement, relocation, promotion, performance appraisal, job classification reviews, separation, training, etc.), ensuring consistency in the application of regulations and procedures. •Maintains and reviews organizational staffing tables Contract Administration •Assist with day-to-day administration of contracts between the UN and external contractors for outsourced services •Audits the contractors’ invoices against the goods and services provided by the contractor and approved by the UN •Process the payment of contractor invoices and monitor payments •Prepare and process all UN forms and permissions for contractual and programme unit, section or service UN staff including UN grounds passes, property passes, swipe card access and door keys •Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

•Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); •Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; •Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
•Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; •Assst with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; •Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Two years of experience in a relevant field is an asset but not a requirement; Demonstrated interest and commitment to OHCHR’s mission, vision and values; Motivated to contribute towards peace and development and to serve others; Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills; Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team; Flexible and open to learning and new experiences; Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures, environments and living conditions; Fluency in spoken and written Arabic and English is required; Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded; Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and others).

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. https://www.unv.org/ This position is based in Doha, Qatar. Doha provides for an interesting and enriching environment, but also requires a mature level of cultural awareness, as well as more stamina and commitment than elsewhere to make life comfortable and affordable. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
