This is a UNV International Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Youth contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Candidate age: between 18 and 29 throughout the entire duration of their assignment. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of Youth and Adolescent Development Officer in Camps, the International UN Youth Volunteer will:

Programme Implementation and Quality Support

Youth Programme Associate will support the supervision of the daily activities of Youth Programmes at the centers, ensuring that activities take place according to program implementation plans and monitoring the quality of programs. This includes, but is not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Contribute to and support the site managers in the preparation of key planning activities at the centres. Support preparation of activity work plans including programme schedules/cycles, outreach plans, events as required;
  • Ensure site managers and staff comply by set work plans, schedules and meet targets;
  • Systematically undertake and document visits in the designated centres to monitor and assess programme implementation and decide on required corrective actions;
  • Conduct regular capacity assessments for site managers and facilitators and identify training needs in each center;
  • Coordinate with colleagues and technical partners and focal points to conduct trainings, monitoring sessions, coaching, or any other type of capacity development/programme support activity as per the assessed needs;
  • Ensure Syrian staff and beneficiaries have safe mechanisms to share feedback and complaints, including the reporting of PSEA-related issues, and ensure beneficiaries aremsystematically consulted.
  • Provide reports as required.
  • Support with other tasks as needed.

Operational Support

  • Youth Programme Associate in Camp will follow-up on all HR, logistics and administrative requirements of the 3 youth centres in coordination with the third-party company and the Syrian site managers. This includes, but is not limited to, the following tasks:
  • Assess and keep track of administrative and supply requirements per centre;
  • Organise/participate in regular coordination meetings with the third party company and the site managers to keep track of progress against agreed actions;
  • Ensure the centres are safe and clean at all times;
  • Ensure maintenance needs are regularly assessed by the site managers and addressed by the third-party company;
  • Assess and track HR needs and follow-up on recruitments with the third party company in line with established SOPs and policies;
  • Supervise the Syrian site managers, including managing their performance and learning and development needs in coordination with the third-party company;
  • Conduct daily field visits to the centres in order to monitor the situation and report any concern;
  • Support with other tasks as needed.
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Degree in social sciences such as International relations, Cultural studies, Business Administration, Communications or relevant areas, or equivalent working/volunteering experiences

Required experience:

12 Months

Experience remark:

  • Up to 2 years of relevant experience;
  • Motivated to contribute towards humanitarian and development assistance and to serve others;
  • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills;
  • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team with professionalism;
  • Flexible and open to learning and new experiences;
  • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;
  • Fluent in Arabic and English;
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Have affinity with or interest in support to youth and adolescent development field and Volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
