The Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing, supporting, and implementing programming for school age children, their parents, and schools. This includes building school and community partnerships, building the capacity of school staff to understand and serve newcomer students, connecting parents to childcare and educational resources, building parent capacity to support the social-emotional wellness and academic growth of their children, and running enrichment programs that build academic skills and enhance integration, among other initiatives. The Youth Program Coordinator reports directly to the Youth Program Supervisor and supervises the Youth Program Specialists.

Major Responsibilities:

Program Coordination

- Coordinate the delivery of new and existing education and youth programming, ensuring that all activities are well-organized, timely, and align with the agency's mission and goals. - Oversee the coordination of integration programming, which includes parent capacity building and engagement services. This involves providing resources and support to parents to help them actively participate in their children's education and integration process. - Create and manage tutoring programs designed to support refugee children and youth in their academic endeavors, including homework assistance and academic enrichment. - Develop and implement programs that focus on the social and emotional well-being of refugee youth, fostering skills such as empathy, communication, and conflict resolution. - Plan and oversee after-school and school break programs that offer refugee children a safe and enriching environment during non-school hours, including recreational and educational activities. - Create and manage summer enrichment programs that provide refugee youth with opportunities for continued learning, skill development, and cultural enrichment during the summer months. - Collaborate with local schools and educational institutions to offer comprehensive professional development training for educators and practitioners, enhancing their ability to better support refugee students and their unique needs including training in areas such as refugee and immigrant youth development, culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices, and refugee caregiver engagement. - Partner with the Parent/Student Coordinator to design, organize, and deliver events and services that are tailored to refugee parents, with the aim of educating and empowering them to support their children's education effectively. These initiatives also encompass informing parents about their responsibilities within the school system and fostering a stronger school-parent partnership. - Work collaboratively with the Youth Programs team to develop and enhance youth program designs.

Team Management

- Supervise and support a small team of Youth Program Specialists and up to 2 interns per semester, through regularly scheduled one-on-one check-ins, empowering them to build robust and engaging programs for youth and parents. - Support supervisees to identify professional development goals and activities that provide opportunities for their growth. - Develop and deliver comprehensive training for the team, ensuring they acquire the necessary skills, knowledge, and competencies to excel in their roles and contribute to the organization's success, including topics such as effective teaching methods for working with multi-lingual learners and understanding of trauma-informed education principles. - Complete performance management plans, progress meetings, and evaluations according to IRC standards.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

- Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement a monitoring and evaluation structure that evaluates program success from the viewpoint of participants and pinpoints areas for enhancement. - Maintain ongoing communication with colleagues and the Youth Program Supervisor on the status of the youth programs, clients, and outcomes. and provide timely reports on management and contract compliance issues. - Monitor program delivery and data collection to ensure consistently meet all established grant outcomes and internal benchmarks, including documentation, case files, data tracking, client influence, and other areas of administrative compliance. - Ensure compliance with all program standards and grant requirements in accordance with the State Office for Refugee Resettlement - Write monthly and semi-annual program reports.

Internal and External Partnerships

- In collaboration with the Youth Program Supervisor, maintain and develop partner relationships with school district staff, community partners, and funders. Coordinate with school district and other community partners to determine the needs of students and their families. - Participate actively in IRC internal Education & Youth network, including the US Youth Community of Practice through reoccurring meetings, resource sharing, collaborative initiatives, and program data tracking. - Participate in resource development and assist in writing grant proposals in support of the youth and education work of the IRC Phoenix. - Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

- Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in education, social work, psychology, or a related human services field. - Minimum two, prefer three to five years experience in education or social programs for children and youth, including previous experience supervising staff or volunteers. - Evidence of exceptional people management skills, including the ability to lead, motivate, and mentor team members effectively. This involves fostering a positive and inclusive work environment, resolving conflicts, promoting professional development, and ensuring that individuals within the team perform at their best to achieve organizational goals. - Knowledge of standards for high quality youth programming, including engaging content, and strong safeguarding, safety, and security measures - Experience documenting program services and tracking data to monitor against program benchmarks and meet reporting requirements - Experience delivering training and professional development to adults. Knowledge of adult learning principles. - Cross-cultural understanding and strong written and verbal communication skills, with lived experience as refugee or immigrant or, in lieu of lived experience, experience working with refugees and/or immigrants or experience working cross-culturally. - Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically in a multi-cultural setting and with limited-English proficiency speakers - Ability to promote an organizational culture that reflects IRC’s core values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality. Ability to lead in a way that recognizes that IRC’s work is best accomplished through the true collaboration of individuals from many cultures with a great variety of skills and perspectives. - Organized, responsible, and flexible: able to maintain responsibility for multiple tasks in the context of a diverse, fast-paced work environment and maintain composure under pressure. - Fluent in English, both spoken and written; bilingual ability in a language spoken by the local refugee population is desired. - Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook). - Must have a valid driver’s license, active insurance policy, and access to reliable transportation. - In accordance with Arizona State Law, must possess or be eligible to receive a fingerprint clearance card.

Working Environment:

- A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities. - May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
