Under the overall scope of UNFPA Country Programme Document, the UNV will provide general support for the meaningful youth engagement initiatives under “Empower our Youth’ project by UNFPA and Reckitt to end unmet need for family planning among groups of young people. The youth engagement assistant will support the enabling environment and empowerment of youth of all genders, especially women and girls, and LGBTIQs from vulnerable population groups including ethnicity, those living in poverty, those from sensitive cultural backgrounds, and youth with disabilities.

The incumbent will support meaningful youth engagement to promote:

● comprehensive and universal access to adolescent pregnancy preventive mechanisms that made available for all young persons as indicated in the Prevention and Solutions of Adolescent Pregnancy Act enacted in 2016; ● public awareness on gender equality and ending gender-based violence which are key causal factors of the unintended pregnancy among vulnerable young people as well as women living in remote areas; ● youth-led policy advocacy through collecting voices and recommendations; and youth-led initiatives to promote gender equality, condom use among youth people, and right- based sexual and reproductive health services.

The UN Volunteer for Youth Engagement will be an active UNFPA team member working under the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer responsible for Empowering our Youth project and under the close guidance of Communications Specialist, Coordinator for Population, Data and Innovations, and Head of Office. The UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: General tasks: Coordinate with local partners and rights holders to support meaningful youth engagement with the agreed project strategies, actions and activities in selected provinces and areas. Specific tasks: a) Support the initiative and development of comprehensive and universal access to adolescent pregnancy preventive mechanisms that made available for all young persons as stipulated in the Prevention and Solutions of Adolescent Pregnancy Act (AP Act) enacted in 2016 ● Assist the national and local partners, and UNFPA on the collection of AP Act policy implementation gaps that prevent young people and women in the project selected areas and province from enjoying their rights and services, especially gaps in relation to gender equality, norms, and cultures . ● Facilitate the process to identify those major practices or concrete actions that prevent young people from universal access to available services and care, validate them with young people and brainstorm with them to design creative approaches to bridge those policy implementation gaps. ● Empower and build capacity of the project youth leaders in their skills to produce advocacy and communications materials that aims to promote the uptake of young persons in the project areas to access adolescent pregnancy preventive mechanisms and essential services for teen mothers in diverse dimension including social reintegration and economic empowerment. b) Support public awareness on gender equality and ending gender-based violence which are key causal factors of the unintended pregnancy among vulnerable young people as well as women living in remote areas. ● Support the youth initiatives on design and development of ideas of promoting gender equality, condom use among young people and right-based sexual and reproductive health services. ● Assist to identify youth social media influencers and youth training activities to increase awareness of public and local policy. ● Provide communications knowledge and support to youth leaders and youth social influencers to produce social media materials on social media platforms including Tik Tok, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, to promote public awareness of rights to sexual and reproductive health. . ● Provide communications knowledge and support to local partners, youth leaders, and social media influencers to monitor voices, feedback, and recommendations to improve the internet access for vulnerable young people and women in the project areas. ● Support UNFPA communications team and local project partners on the public awareness campaigns by and among young people of all diversities for norm shifts and changes on sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and protection and response of gender-based violence in the project areas and across the country as identified in the project action plan and in the UNFPA Thailand’s Communications and Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Strategy. ● Coordinate with groups of young people with diversities including ethnicity, disabilities, and LGBTQs for them to present their voices and policy recommendations on their rights to sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and protection and response of gender-based violence on various types of digital platforms including social media like Instagram and Tik Tok. This might require travelling to the project areas in the Chiang Mai and other provinces. ● Support or propose feasible and creative ideas in engaging young people with diversities in voicing out the gender norms towards rights to sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and protection and response of gender-based violence on various types of digital platforms including social media i.e. Instagram and Tik Tok. c) Support youth-led policy advocacy through collecting voices and recommendations ● Support the design and implement the youth-friendly survey methods with meaningful youth engagement in collecting voices and recommendations. ● Empower youth leaders identified by local partners on collecting youth’s voices and recommendations, assisting in data processing, and in drafting key points and messages for policy advocacy. ● Support the preparation and design of policy advocacy materials, identify strategic channels to advocate key points and messages, and support youth leaders on powerful policy advocacy techniques and tactics. ● Monitor and review progress of youth-led policy advocacy. ● Provide other relevant work support as assigned. Results/expected outputs: As an active UNFPA Thailand team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UNFPA and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: ● Monthly report and inputs as part of the UNFPA-Reckitt monthly report ● Innovative youth-friendly design packages of policy and public advocacy, platforms, and youth-friendly advocate tools to promote the reduced unmet need for family planning, gender equality, and positive gender norms in relation to unintended pregnancy. ● A comparative review report of meaningful youth engagement initiatives and good practices in at least 2 cases of similar context of Thailand and good practices initiated and implemented in the UNFPA “Empower our Youth” project including actionable recommendations for UNFPA Thailand for further improvements.

Social Sciences or other related field. The study with the focus on national policies relevant to the life of women and girls especially among the vulnerable conditions will be an asset. Minimum experience: • 0-3 years of working experience in programme or project support including administrative and coordination support. • Experience working with UN Family will be an asset. • Have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences with the focus on national policies relevant to the life of women and girls especially among the vulnerable conditions. • Understand the issues that affect the life of women and girls in vulnerable situations including access to information and services of sexual and reproductive health, assistance from
• Ability to delivery tasks in limited time and under pressure. • Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds. • Computer literacy especially MS-Office and social media usage. • Ability to communicate clearly in speaking and writing. • Must be fluency in both English and Thai.   

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.

Benefits and Entitlements:

The purpose of the allowances and entitlements paid to UN Volunteers is to enable UN Volunteers to sustain a secure standard of living at the duty stations in line with United Nations standards without incurring personal costs. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for the UN Volunteer’s service. Contingent on specific eligibility criteria, location of the volunteer assignment and contractual type and category, the payment of allowances will begin from the date of Commencement of Service. See Annex 05 for allowances.

Monthly living Allowance (per month) is around 38006 Thai Baht Entry Lump Sum (one-time payment) USD 400 Exit Allowance (for each month served paid on completion of assignment) THB 3958.92 Medical and Life Insurance Coverage

Leave entitlements:

Annual leave: 2.5 days accrued per calendar month Certified sick leave: 30 days Uncertified Sick Leave: 7 days Learning leave: 10 working days per consecutive 12 months Maternity Leave: 16 weeks Paternity Leave: 10 days
