This is a UNV International Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Youth contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Analyst, the UN Youth Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

1. Provide support in planning, design and implementation of programmes, projects, initiatives or activities aimed at volunteer and youth engagement and empowerment:

  • Provide support to pipeline and project development in the field of volunteer and youth engagement and empowerment, including preparation of concept notes, project and initiation plan proposals based on the latest developments in relevant fields;
  • Collect, analyze and interprete data on youth and volunteers development in the country, region and globally; ensure availability of an up-to-date information on all critical issues related to youth development and volunteers related areas;
  • Identify entry points for volunteer and youth engagement into activities of UNDP’s projects and programmes; support, when necessary, volunteer and youth on-boarding, training and coordination in the framework of the UNDP’s projects and programmes;
  • Provide day-to-day support to the team in implementing programmes, projects, initiatives or activities aimed at volunteer and youth engagement and empowerment.

2. Support development of partnerships and building capacities for effective volunteer and youth engagement and empowerment:

  • Assist in organizing and facilitating youth development activities; co-facilitate peer led activities; facilitate evidence-based programs and workshops on youth engagement and volunteering;
  • Assist in planning and organizing round tables, conferences, forums and other events, and support multilateral knowledge exchange and experience sharing;
  • Participate in stakeholder and capacities mapping of established youth networks and organizations, provide assistance in monitoring and mapping of the volunteer movement in Belarus;
  • Contribute to building partnerships with national ministries and agencies, youth organizations, women’s organizations and other CSOs, educational institutions and other relevant stakeholders;
  • Provide support in day-to-day communication with youth and youth organizations and networks as well as with educational institutions and student communities;

  • Provide support in the moderation of Digital Volunteers’ Platform – a tool to facilitate B2B (organization to organization) and C2B (volunteer to organization) partnership building, mobilize volunteer networks for targeted support to vulnerable groups of population and raise the profile of volunteerism in the Belarusian society.

3. Support effective outreach of youth engagement and empowerment and promote youth activism for sustainable development:

  • provide support in designing, planning and production of communications and visibility materials to promote youth engagement for sustainable development in Belarus;

  • draft analytical blogs and briefing notes on youth engagement in sustainable development of Belarus.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Socio-Economic Development, Governance, Law, International Relations or related fields is required.

Required experience:

Experience remark:

  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to 2 years) in youth engagement and/or empowerment;

    Experience in participating and/or organizing youth, educational or volunteer projects or initiatives would be highly regarded;

    Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.

Language skills:

  • Russian(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Byelorussian(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

Learning Expectations

Learning and development are a central part of the UN Youth Volunteer’s assignment and take place before, during and after his or her assignment in the field. Ideally, offering diverse opportunities for learning and development aim to strengthen the volunteer’s skills and competences, improve the quality of the assignment and keep the volunteer’s motivation high.

Learning elements for the UN Youth Volunteer include the development of:

  • Professional skills: including specific competencies and reflection on assignment-related abilities; and on-the-job skills such as time management, problem solving, team building; and career preparedness such as interview skills, CV preparation, job searching.
  • Inter-personal skills: including communication and listening skills; multi-cultural awareness and cultural competency; and conflict and stress management.
  • Volunteering-related skills: including leadership; civic responsibility; and engagement and active participation.

Beyond the learning opportunities provided by UNV, the host agency will support knowledge and capacity development in the technical areas that are relevant to the UN Youth Volunteer’s assignment. The host agency will provide, at its expense, UN Youth Volunteers with equal opportunity to participate in training courses and workshops offered to its personnel.

Prerequisites

This assignment is funded by the Government of the Russian Federation, therefore only Russian nationals are eligible to apply.

This is a UN Youth Volunteer assignment and eligible candidates must be below 29 years of age throughout the assignment.

Selection process

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The selection will be done by the UN Host Entity at the level of the country of assignment, via competency-based interviews held via skype or telephone.

Selected candidates will be invited to an assignment preparation training.
