Position: Youth Coordinator

Background Information:

The vast majority of the Ukrainian refugees are children and their families. During their refuge situation children and parents have to cope not only with emotional stress and post war-trauma but also to organize themselves to the extent enabling them to move forward and enjoy balanced, relatively normal life.

Key in this situation is to provide children and youth with the opportunities to continue education, get engaged in regular activities, learn to (re)adapt to everyday life of surrounding society. The stress, experienced war trauma and in several cases lack of the adaptation and social skills hold children back not only with returning go to the usual pace but also distances them from their peers, obstructs from normal life and holds back when performing primary functions. Parents emotional well-being is in correlation with their children’s mental stability. In most cases they are traumatized themselves, thus coping with organizing social life and after-school education of their kids is yet represents a challenge for them. Therefore, supporting the Ukrainian refugee children offering them various activities in the area of informal education, obtaining life balance, social skills and empowerment will improve/develop their learning and social adaptation skills crucial to achieve resilience, stability and happiness.

Under this component Peace Road Youth Clubs will be set up in 4 to 5 schools in various locations of Georgia (Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, Poti and/or Zugdidi), welcoming youth from host communities and refugee youth from Ukraine with the aim to foster integration. Peace Road Model is an integrated approach to empower young people with life skills and to support them to develop the skills, behaviours and attitudes necessary to participate constructively in their communities. Peace Road (PC) are aimed at youth aged 13 to 18 years who have low educational attainment and represent ethnic, religious minority groups in the community but are interested and motivated to learn new skills and contribute meaningfully to their communities. PC Clubs are groups of about 20 young girls and boys who meet regularly to learn about relevant life skills issues, identify community problems and to brainstorm, plan and implement community service and social and educational projects. The clubs undertake small community projects responding to the community or school needs, elicits greater leadership, project management and business development skills from the youth.

Purpose of the position:

To implement and provide oversight for the activities under the Youth Component of the project.

Youth Coordinator is responsible for operationalization and implementation of Peace Road Youth Clubs in schools; for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under the respective project direction.

Additionally, Youth Coordinator will take a lead in supervision and management of Youth Workers to carry out their tasks and assignments in compliance with the project goal and WV policy.

The Youth Coordinator shall assist the youth and the relevant parties with the set-up club activities to learn and strength social skills, improve self-development and increase resilience.

Main Responsibilities:

Coordination and management of Youth Component implementation

  • Plan, manage and coordinate the work of youth workers; Ensure set-up Youth Clubs in schools are functional and effective;
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to youth workers at schools; Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with WV core values, principles and project goals.
  • Work closely with Project Coordinator to ensure that Youth Workers are well contextualized and equipped with relevant knowledge;
  • Work closely with Project Manager and Project Coordinator to ensure that both (refugee and local) communities needs are reflected in respective Piece Road models; Ensure planned activities respond to those and are adequately resourced.
  • Carry out the activities/tasks described in respective action plans timely and with high quality; Coordinate work with Project Manager to ensure tasks are proceeding on schedule and on budget;
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by Project Manager or Coordinator.
  • Travel to respective area sites to monitor the actual implementation
  • Reporting
  • Develop reporting and accountability schemes with Youth Workers; Ensure all documents filled up by Youth Workers are in line with procedures, are complete and accurate.
  • Deliver monthly status reports to Project Manager;
  • Contribute to project overall reporting as needed.

Monitoring and evaluation

  • Responsible for collecting component-related data in compliance with MEAL and donor requirements;
  • Assist MEAL team with project evaluation through technical organization of FGs, KIIs, etc.
  • Support project in data gathering and analysis for M&E purposes in Youth Component.

Monitor partners and ensure smooth collaboration while delivering desired outcomes.

Outreach and Communication

  • Through the guidance and technical support of Project Coordinator plan, organize and participate in information sessions and campaigns to ensure community and partners understand the importance of the Peace Road model intervention and importance of it to be participatory and needs-based;
  • Encourage and stimulate full participation by all parties.

Knowledge and qualifications for the role:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in one of the social science disciplines, such as psychology, sociology etc.
  • Familiarity and commitment to non-formal education principles;

Required Professional Experience:

  • Certified youth professional or at least 3 years proven working experience of working experience in the field of youth work
  • Experience in similar activities/projects; At least 2 years of proven experience in Managing Projects
  • Experience of work with the vulnerable population especially children and youth;
  • Basic digital skills (excel, word, PowerPoint) and word processing skills;
  • Self-disciplined with strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure; Ability to quickly adopt rapidly changes environment and requirements;
  • Analytical aptitude and attention to details;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills;
  • Strong presentation skills;
  • Problem solving skills and problem-solving orientation;
  • Accuracy and attention to details;

Language Requirements:

Exceptional verbal and written communicational skills, with knowledge of English and Russian (verbal and written);

The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 15% of the time.
