he UN in collaboration with the Government of Kenya developed the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), which articulates the collective vision of the UN system in Kenya for 2022-2026. The UNSDCF succeeds the UNDAF 2018-2022. The UNSDCF was prepared in the context of a system-wide response to development challenges and COVID-19 pandemic in the country. The UNSDCF provides a platform for collaboration and partnerships and a framework through which recovery, shared prosperity and development can be realised. The UNSDCF has two overall “Strategic Priorities” and a “Strategic Enabler on Partnership”. The first SP targets interventions to support People and Peace, the Second SP targets interventions to support Prosperity and Planet, and both are augmented by a Strategic Enabler that supports interventions towards Partnerships. The Enabler is strongly supported by the SDG Partnership Platform, Kenya (SDGPP) launched at the UN general Assembly in 2017 that convenes, connects and catalyzes SDG Partnerships, Financing and Investments across multiple sectors and stakeholders including private sector. The UNSDCF benefitted from the UN’s consultations with the government, development partners, the private sector, academia, civil society and other stakeholders during the UNSDCF formulation period. The implementation of the UNSDCF will be done in close partnership with a wide range of national, local, regional and international stakeholders.

Under the direct supervision of the Head of RCO and the SDGPP Coordinator, and working in close coordination with the Youth Advisor at RCO, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

· Support and expand UN Kenya youth outreach by liaising with youth networks, CSOs, private sector, academia, and relevant counterpart government ministries and agencies towards on enhancing a coordinated mechanism for youth participation in SDGs implementation

· Support technical coordination and representation of the Resident Coordinator’s Office to enhance the functionality of the UN Kenya adolescent and youth technical working group

· Support advocacy, capacity development and partnership efforts, evidence and knowledge development, and dissemination relating to the youth sector in Kenya.

· Support youth engagement on SDGs interventions in Kenya including throughout the implementa-tion of UNSDCF 2022-2026.

· Drive the anchorage of the youth initiatives throughout the SDG Partnerships Platform (SDGPP) including supporting development of value proposition for youth engagement by actively identifying,

supporting and tapping on the various partnerships and investments and resource mobilization op-portunities under the SDGPP.

· Support the UN Kenya youth score card reporting working closely with UN Kenya adolescent and youth technical working group.

Results/Expected Outputs

· Assist in the timely delivery of the youth component of UNRCO Annual Work Plan through supporting the planning and implementation of project-related activities, such as training events, workshops, and meetings, and maintaining regular contacts with UNRCO implementing partners.

· Timely, responsive, and high-quality support towards the delivery of ongoing and new development programs and related initiatives relating to youth empowerment supported by the UNRCO Kenya.

· Identification and creation of new partnerships, and coordination of existing initiatives, between relevant stakeholders (government, civil society, private sector, and development partners and non-profits in Kenya, including within the UN Kenya family and the SDGPP).

· LNOB perspective particularly with a focus on young people is systematically applied, integrated, and documented in all activities throughout the assignment period.

· Promotion of Volunteering / Volunteerism

· Support to and participation in at least 2 UNV Field Unit initiatives (UNV team retreat, UNV community mobilization initiatives, International Volunteer Day, etc.).

· Successful submission of UNV articles (1~2) for peace building and development; Development of UNV peace-building program.

The Republic of Kenya is an equatorial nation on the coast of East Africa, neighboring Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and the Indian Ocean. Kenya has two levels of Government; National Government and 47 sub-national Governments called Counties. Kenya is a multi-party state with Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches. Kenya’s population of more than 45 million is growing at an annual rate of 2.2%. The country’s GNP per capita estimated at purchasing power parity (PPP) is $975, and the GNP is growing at an average rate of 0.1% annually. More than 26% of Kenya’s people live below the international poverty line of $1 per day. Kenya’s main food crops are “maize, wheat, pulses, roots and tubers.” (FAO).

Nairobi is a modern metropolitan city where most basic goods and services, health facilities, public transport, telecommunication and banking services, and educational facilities are readily available. The city is widely connected through its main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, and the smaller Wilson Airport. Air transport is also available to many up-country destinations. The city is home to some 3,000 UN personnel mainly attributed to the fact that it serves as the headquarters for both the UN-HABITAT and UNEP. The socio-economic and cultural background of the immediate society the UNV would be living and working in is diverse and prevailing security conditions at the place of assignment is mod-est. The topographic and climatic features of the assignment location is a highland cool and warm tropical climate
