This is a UNV International Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Youth contracts.

In strong collaboration with UNFPA Country Office programme and operations staff the Youth IUNV is expected to provide support to the successful implementation of UNFPA PBF projects through supporting regular activities and participating in programme events. The Youth IUNV is also responsible for strengthening their capacity on peacebuilding related topics and UNFPA mandate.

Under the direct supervision of National Programme Analyst on YPD, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

● Supports UNFPA National Programme Analyst to design and develop project activities aimed to contribute youth participation in peacebuilding processes; ● Supports in implementation of peace-building project (PBF) activities and contributes to promote youth participation in peacebuilding initiatives; ● Supports UNFPA PBF team to communicate, message and advocate in and/or working on peacebuilding, conflict resolution, resilience, violence prevention, community engagement ● Provides support in holding consultations with youth and youth-led organisations to capture recommendations, and lessons learned specific to the issues of youth, peace and security ● Provides support to development of proposals for resource mobilization for peacebuilding related activities as well as project implementation and reporting; ● Assists in producing quality reports for different stakeholders; ● Builds own capacity on peacebuilding and youth issues through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with national staff or (non-) governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs); ● Undertakes any other tasks requested by direct supervisor; ● Strengthens own knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); ● Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; ● Reflects on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; ● Contributes to articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; ● Assists with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; ● Promotes or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

(up to three years) and/or demonstrated interest in peacebuilding, conflict resolution and development projects; ● Dedication to development issues in areas of UNFPA’s mandate such as youth, peacebuilding, conflict resolution through either volunteer experience, work experience, or youth network affiliations; ● Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;

The Kyrgyz Republic is a land-locked, lower-middle-income country, with a rank of 122nd out of 189 countries in terms of human development. The total population is estimated at 6.1 million, with two thirds living in rural areas and young people under 30 years constituting 30 per cent of the population. Despite significant progress in reducing extreme poverty (SDG 1.1), one quarter of the population lives below the national poverty line (SDG1.2). Bishkek is a relatively safe city, although normal precaution is recommended especially late at night and in poorly-lit areas. The current security level for Bishkek (as of May 2022) is Moderate (3). Expats living in Bishkek are advised to bring their own medication to ensure availability and quality. The climate is continental, with cold winters, often frosty, and warm and sunny summers, sometimes very hot at low altitudes, but cooler in the mountains. Pollution in winter remains a serious problem in Bishkek. English is not widely spoken, with Kyrgyz and Russian being the common languages.
