UNDP/PAPP places empowerment, resilience and sustainability at the center of its operation and focuses on three priority areas: the Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem and Area C of the West Bank, where the needs are the greatest. UNDP/PAPP is active in four thematic areas: democratic governance and the rule of law; economic empowerment and private sector development; environment and management of natural resources; and public and social infrastructure.

The objective of this assignment is to support youth programming and the implementation of the Youth Leadership programme at the country level as well as the regional and global level. The Youth Assistant will work under the supervision and guidance of the UNDP Youth Focal Points both at the country and regional levels. S/he will be an integral part of the UNDP Country office and Regional Programme team and will play an important role supporting UNDP’s Country Offices and partners, with a strong focus on coordination, advocacy, planning, and evaluation. This position is part of the Youth Development Delegates in the Arab Region programme that is the result of a partnership between The Arab Youth Center (AYC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Arab States. This youth employment initiative, in its second cohort, will provide an opportunity for 14 young people passionate about achieving Sustainable Development Goals to work at the UNDP offices in their countries, in the field of youth work, to achieve the common vision of both parties aimed at enabling and empowering the youth in the Arab region.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Youth Focal Point in close coordination with the Regional Coordinator or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Youth Assistant will: - Assists UNDP/PAPP in supporting the Regional Youth Project, inclusive of the Youth Leadership Programme (YLP), by supporting on implementation requirements, coordinating with youth, partners and UNDP Country Offices, accessing regional networks, and providing backstopping support. - Assists UNDP/PAPP in identifying background information related to strategic planning, developing innovative responses to emerging challenges and opportunities for youth in the State of Palestine and in the Arab region around SDGs. - Assists in the timely preparation of all substantive technical reports, briefs and required documents, including progress reports, concept notes, background documents and briefing notes related to YLP and any other project so assigned. - Provides support to Youth Focal Point and Youth Coordinator on the development of a broader UNDP/PAPP youth programme, activities, and events. - Provides support to monitoring & consolidating youth related activities being implemented throughout UNDP/PAPP and reporting on accumulated knowledge and results. - Assisting UNDP/PAPP in the coordination with the UN Theme Group and other UN sister agencies in joint project activities, including International Youth Day and other UN internationally recognized days. - Provide assistance to the rollout of the Palestinian National Youth Volunteer Service Programme (or any other programme) with government partners, UN sister agencies, CSOs, Academia, and the Private Sector. - Assist in promoting youth’s social, political and economic empowerment in the State of Palestine and the Arab region. - Assist in publicly advocating for and speaking out on youth engagement in development (and the pursuit of SDGs achievement) nationally, which will include monthly vlogs, leading online public webinars, and social media outreach. - Assists in the coordination of providing YLP’s mentorship support, where relevant. - Supports in the preparation of press releases, press events, social media and campaigns. - Carrying out other tasks as assigned by the UNDP/PAPP Youth Focal Point and UNDP/PAPP Youth Coordinator, as well as by Regional Coordinator in coordination with respective supervisor, and any other required administrative work. - Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor

  • At least 3 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in youth related programmes and projects, or other relevant programmes;
  • Experience with YLP is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Systematic and organized, with the ability to flexible and adaptive;
  • Experience in working on projects and understanding the project life cycle;
  • Knowledge of graphic design, infographics and data visualization is an asset;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. Settling-In-Grant will be provided in the event duty station is not within commuting distance from the place of recruitment.

A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of ILS 4724.83 is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents), as well as final repatriation (if applicable) and Exit allowance for satisfactory service.
