Our team and mission

The position is located within the Estates and Facilities Management (EFM) Corporate Services Division of the EFM Department, reporting to the Head of the EFM Business Development and Management Support Office. The team plays an important role in collecting and ensuring the quality and integrity of data from multiple ESA sites’ sources, such as energy, water, materials, food, transportation and waste.

The team plays an important role in preparing sustainability reports for the Agency, with the objective of informing a variety of different stakeholders and guiding decision-making. The selected candidate will have an opportunity to make a real impact on ESA’s high-level sustainability and environmental goals, as well as work with colleagues at each of the Agency’s different Establishments across Europe.

Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship

As a Young Graduate Trainee, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Collect and ensure the quality and integrity of EFM data from multiple ESA sites’ sources (e.g., energy, water, materials, food, transportation, waste).
  • Develop relationships with the EFM points of contact and ESA Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team to ensure strategic, efficient and integrated data collection and reporting processes.
  • Collect and analyse metrics in line with the EFM Sustainability Master Plan.
  • Oversee the annual EFM greenhouse gases inventory including data collection and aggregation for Scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions.
  • Support the preparation of sustainability reports, including web-based dashboards, charts, and infographics, with the objective of informing different stakeholders (e.g. EFM management team, ESA CSR team, etc.).
  • Support the preparation and update of all relevant documentation related to the ESA Energy Management System and assist during the internal and external auditing process against ISO 50001.
  • Support the development of a communication plan and the creation of communication material aiming at raising awareness on the sustainability of the ESA built environment.
  • Support the adoption and maintenance of software programs and tools that enhance data aggregation, integrity, reporting, and visualisation.
  • Support with exchanges with outside contractors, vendors, and consultants to enhance product selection and services that advance sustainability offerings at ESA.

Education

You should have just completed or be in the final year of your master’s in sustainability, environmental science, data science, engineering, or a related field.

Additional requirements

Understanding of key sustainability trends and related data analysis, database management and software engineering is required.

You should have good interpersonal and communication skills and should be able to work in a multicultural environment, both independently and as part of a team.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
