Our team and mission

OPS-Q is the Product Assurance and Safety Office of the OPS directorate. It ensures quality at level of organisation (Quality Assurance) and at level of services and products (Product Assurance). A Quality Management System (QMS), integrated with an Information Security Management System (ISMS), allows for the certification of the OPS directorate against ISO9001 and ISO27001. The QMS and ISMS procedures drive the OPS staff in delivering the services of spacecraft operations and space safety, and in building and maintaining the infrastructure supporting such services.

You are encouraged to visit the ESA website: http://www.esa.int

Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship

In the frame of a long-term work developed together with previous YGTs, you as new YGT will focus on completing the identification of performance measures for the processes of the OPS directorate. The guiding reference will be the Key Effectiveness Indicators already defined for some OPS processes, the available measuring and reporting tools (e.g. PowerBI), and the collected data from the past years.

The input will be the description of the remaining processes in QMS and ISMS and their day-to-day implementation by the OPS staff in the satellite missions, in space safety services and in the space infrastructure projects, operations and maintenance.

The output will be new Key Effectiveness Indicators to be added to the description of the QMS/ISMS process, their automatic measurement with the available tools and the collection of data from available records. In parallel you will carry out an analysis on the collected data from existing processes and identify root causes for possible underperformance and proposed corrective actions. You will also review the processes for possible optimisation and/or digitalisation.
