Duties and Responsibilities

I Background, Organizational Setting: The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the focal point for human settlements in the UN system. The New Urban Agenda, adopted by Member States during the Habitat III conference in Quito in October 2016, reaffirms UN-Habitat’s role as the focal point for sustainable urbanization and human settlements in collaboration with other United Nations system entities. The New Urban Agenda recognizes the linkages between sustainable urbanization and sustainable development, disaster risk reduction, and climate change. In addition, the focus of UN-Habitat and its Strategic Plan 2020-2025 is fully aligned with SDG 11 and related goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that call upon the global community to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. UN-Habitat’s expected outcomes are articulated in the Strategic Plan 2020-2025 and implemented through annual work programmes and budgets. Results-based monitoring and reporting are important elements of the results-based management approach adopted for the delivery of UN-Habitat’s strategic plan. UN-Habitat would like to recruit a consultant to support the preparation of the Annual Report that will capture and communicate the catalytic impact of results achieved in 2023. The impact stories are expected to be geographically balanced, and capture results from (i) initiatives that contribute to several subprogrammes, or (ii) from countries that have a good mix of thematically diverse yet integrated projects ( •Preparing written and visual content for (i) an interactive and short summary and (ii) a longer and in-depth pdf/ print version of the Annual Report 2023, including short texts, highlights on big-data, infographics, and other visual elements that illustrate results in a simple and clear manner. •Drafting and revision and consolidation of different drafts of the report based on feedback from branches, regional and country offices, and divisions •Preparation of a clean final draft of the annual report 2023 for submission to senior management and editing The assignment will be guided by UN-Habitat’s Strategic Plan 2020-2025, the results-based management policy, the results framework, and the 2023 work programme and budget. In addition to the primary data on results to be obtained from programme managers and partners, information needs to be gathered from programme performance reports, evaluation reports, other relevant internal documents
