Result of Service Development and delivery of six stories in print and digital formats, illustrating the successful implementation of the BRS Conventions, and highlighting the crucial role of the European Union as a donor.

Expected duration The contract will be 25 workdays, starting from 16 January to 31 March 2023.

Duties and Responsibilities The Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (BRS Secretariat) brings together the three leading multilateral environmental agreements that share the common objective of protecting human health and the environment from hazardous chemicals and wastes.

A consultant is required to work closely with the BRS Secretariat Public Awareness and Outreach team, with the objective of developing six communication products under the name “Success stories from implementation of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions”.

Specific tasks and responsibilities

(i) Hold preparatory discussions with the BRS Secretariat concerning the overarching goal of the project, the theme of each of the 6 stories, the overall presentation of the stories, and the time and method of expected delivery, within one week from the start of the contract (approximately 1 day).

(ii) Carry out research on best practices from similar projects with the BRS Secretariat, the United Nations, and the international community in general, and submit for review outlines of 6 success stories to the BRS Secretariat for discussion, within two weeks from the start of the contract (approximately 3 days).

(iii) Submit a first draft of the agreed six success stories, each no more than 5 pages A4 size, including graphs, figures and photographs within six weeks from the start of the contract (approximately 12 days).

(iv) Implement potential comments, revising the stories in accordance with the guidance provided by the BRS Secretariat, within eight weeks from the start of the contract (approximately 5 days).

(v) Collaborate with the BRS Secretariat to finalize the way the stories will be presented on print and digital formats, within nine weeks from the start of the contract (approximately 2 days).

(vi) Deliver the final version of the success stories by the end of the contract (approximately 2 days).

Qualifications/special skills Academic qualification:

An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in communication, media, journalism, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

At least five years of experience in communications and/or journalism at international level is required; At least five years of proven experience in developing public awareness raising, multi-purpose material in short and long forms, in print and digital formats; Experience in graphic design is required; Experience in publications is required.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an asset.
