In June 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) opened a country office in Kuwait to advance the health and well-being of the country’s population. The newly established office will enable WHO to work on the ground with national health authorities, United Nations partners and a range of stakeholders in all sectors to foster public health collaboration at the national, regional, and international levels. The office must use various media platforms and tools to communicate with, and to disseminate the latest developments and information to all targeted stakeholders in the country. To achieve this, the WHO Country Office in Kuwait is looking a highly experienced and skilled Health Communication Specialist to support the delivery of WHOs mandate in the country. The selected candidate will work as part of the WHO Kuwait Communications, Resources and Partnerships department and will get a first-hand training from WHO, as well as work following WHO guidelines. In return for their efforts, online volunteers will receive a certificate of appreciation from UNV.

Output 1: Write and review written health content for WHO Kuwait As part of WHO Kuwait’s operations, the country office will produce various written content of both strategic and technical importance. As such, WHO Kuwait is looking for an experienced writer to support the creation of various communication assets, including the newsletter, annual report and other such reports as needed. The specialist will also work with the team to create various stories to be shared across the WHO network and externally as needed.

  • Deliverable 1.1: Written content for WHO Kuwait newsletter. The online volunteerwill support the writing of the WHO Kuwait newsletter, including identifying stories, and building out a narrative.

  • Deliverable 1.2: Written content for WHO Kuwait annual report. The online volunteer will support the writing of the WHO Kuwait annual report, including conducting a review of all activities carries out during the previous year, developing the narrative and preparing written content.

Education requirements - Master’s degree in communication or journalism. - Formal training in graphic design.

Work experience requirements - 5 years of experience in using social media platforms professionally, developing social media content including posts and designs and videos

Skills/Technical requirements - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Proven experience developing, managing, and delivering communication strategies and community engagement campaigns. - Proven multimedia production skills. - Strong inter and intrapersonal skills for all forms of communication. - Commitment to teamwork and be able to work in a multi-disciplinary/cultural environment. - Excellent information technology skills and experience in preparing and maintaining website materials. - Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision, be dynamic, proactive, and creative. - Understanding of key human development issues. Knowledge of global health and/or WHO an asset. - Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.

Language requirements - Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of Arabic will be an asset.
