Afghanistan is one of the world’s most complex emergencies, and the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. Afghan people are grappling with the impact of conflict, poverty, economic decline, and natural disasters. In this context, Afghan women and girls face unique vulnerabilities and require urgent support as gender inequality is interwoven with conflict dynamics and humanitarian needs. It is essential that Afghan women and girls can continue to shape the development of their country, and that their gains are protected. UN Women remains fully committed to supporting Afghan women and girls and to putting them at the center of the global response to the crisis in Afghanistan. UN Women has been in Afghanistan for two decades. UN Women’s programming approach is informed by analysis of the political, economic and humanitarian situation, risks to and capacities of partner organizations, and needs of Afghan women and girls. UN Women Afghanistan currently has four key programme priorities: (1) Gender in Humanitarian Action, (2) Ending Violence Against Women, (3) Women’s Economic Empowerment, and (4) Women, Peace and Security.

Reporting to the WPS Programme Manager, under the oversight of the Country Representative and the Deputy Country Representative, the Women Peace and Security Programme Analyst will provide backstopping support in coordination and implementation of the WPS programmes, including contributing through organizational outreach efforts and support to civil society partners.

Under the overall guidance from the Country Representative and Deputy Representative, and direct management of the WPS Programme Manager, the National WPS Programme Analyst will undertake the following tasks:

• Support the roll out and implementation of WPS programme. • Support every phase of grant making to civil society partners, from selection of partners, contracting, ongoing monitoring, review of financial documents and financial reports, and more. • Contribute to supporting the smooth organizing of virtual and in-person consultations with Afghan women CSOs, and women human rights defenders under guidance of the WPS Programme Manager. • Support in knowledge management products and advocacy initiatives. • Support accurate and comprehensive recording of events and discussions. • The post-holder will be required to participate, where appropriate and under instruction, in the meetings and discussions as relevant under the WPS portfolio, to report on the activities and decisions taken in such forums, and to formulate recommendations for UN Women ACO management for substantive engagement by UN Women ACO.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers Programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day). • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results, and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers. • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

    Assisting in designing, planning, and implementing projects.

• Good writing and editing skills in English, Dari and Pashto required, especially briefs, agendas, minutes, project-management related documents. • Technical experience on women, peace and security and/or gender equality and women’s rights is an asset. • Experience coordinating and liaising with multi-lateral/bilateral agencies and/or donors is an asset.

Other desired/mandatory required technical knowledge.

• Superior understanding of Afghanistan context and challenges facing women leaders and women’s rights • Experience working with the UN Women framework at the national level. • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and advance knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems. • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills. • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.

Entitlement;
