It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The World Urban Forum (WUF) is a non-legislative technical forum convened by UN-Habitat every two years since 2002. The Forum gathers a wide range of experts from every walk of life. Participants of the Forum include, but are not limited to, national, regional, and local governments, non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, professionals, research institutions and academia, professionals, private sector, development finance institutions, foundations, media, United Nations organizations, and other international agencies. It is recognized as the foremost global arena for interaction among policymakers, local government leaders, non-governmental organizations, and expert practitioners in the field of sustainable urban development and human settlements.

Under the direct supervision of World Urban Forum Coordinator and the overall guidance of the ROAS Regional Director, the incumbent will carry out management, advocacy and partnerships related work in preparation for WUF 12 ensuring effective engagement of relevant state and non-state actors from Egypt and the Arab region. The incumbent will be based in the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Arab States, located in Cairo, and will be responsible for the following duties: Strategic planning and preparation: • Support UN-Habitat in the government steering committee headed by the local organizing committee. • Support in preparing TORs and lists of responsibilities and duties of relevant government and non-gov entities based on the ALA and its annexes. • Provide support in creating the local technical subcommittees (comprising of individuals from the sectors of urban planning, art and culture, tourism, private sector) to support in preparation of the city related activities, exhibition, cinema and theater, city-wide fairs and events, etc. • Map all types of relevant regional stakeholders and regional high-profile speakers (including civil society organizations, regional and local government and municipality representatives, parliamentarians, experts and researchers, academics, NGOs and foundations, women and youth groups, artists, private sector, as well as organizations of the United Nations system and intergovernmental organizations). • Support other WUF coordination office team members in the follow-up and implementation of activities according to the WUF12 action plan. • Support in the development and preparation of the WUF12 main theme, background paper and concept note, along with the provisional and final programmes (including the different types of sessions, dialogues, assemblies, round-tables, areas of focus, sub-themes, discussion topics, etc.), and reports relating to WUF12, including, in particular, reports of events and summaries of discussions. • Lead the documentation and reporting of all the preparatory meetings, prior to the event, with all relevant entities in Egypt and the region and ensure the proper data and files management for all meeting, and also provide support, when needed, on: - the drafting of speeches and event scripts for key speakers, including the event moderators. - the preparation of the speakers, PowerPoint presentations and other presentation materials, ensuring they align with the event’s visual identity, in close collaboration with the UN-Habitat’s communications team;

Outreach and communication for visibility and awareness:- • Conduct meetings/focus groups/workshops/brainstorming sessions with the various stakeholder groups to ensure development of a unique WUF experience. • Support in organizing preevents leading to WUF to create awareness and ensure engagement and participation from the relevant stakeholders. • Support the UN-Habitat communications team with different tasks related to WUF communication and visibility efforts, including: - Development of media and visibility strategies: including main press releases, geographical media coverage, digital platforms, and media patrons in Europe and world-wide - Ensuring international and local media coverage. - The implementation of the pre and post WUF dissemination plan (to be prepared by the communications team at UN-Habitat), including the wide dissemination of all relevant material and report, the drafting and finalization of content for the news stories, media advisories and press releases (in Arabic and English and other UN official languages when needed), and other relevant communication content for the WUF as per the communications plan, in the lead-up to, during and after the WUF.

Implementation and operation:- Based on the signed ALA (including its annexes), perform the following duties: • Oversee the timely implementation of the event’s action plan; The provision of guidance on all key areas of event management including, but not limited to, communication, exhibition, registration, website management, overall coordination, management and undertaking of the WUF12 preparation; this will entail: - Support the coordination with the WUF operations, logistics, and expo leads on the run-up to the WUF12 implementation. - Support in the process of sending regional invitation letters to all invitees and follow up on their confirmation, setting up registration link(s) and automatic messages, con-firming attendance of VIPs with their assistants, monitoring attendance confirmation through the online tracking sheet, and follow-up on reminder emails and calls, sign-up and confirmation of attendance to the event; - Other tasks pertaining to the event management support in the lead-up to and during the WUF, including general team logistical and programme support as required.

in communications, public relations, international development, journalism, project management, or related disciplines. - A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. - A progressively responsible experience in development projects, programme management, advocacy and partnerships, public relations, communications or related area. Good understanding of issues concerning sustainable urban development, with a focus on cross-cutting issues (human rights, gender, youth, climate change) and partnerships. - Knowledge of the sociopolitical situation of Egypt and the Arab Region. - International experiences an asset, especially with the United Nations System.
