Organizational Setting

The FAO Representation in Uganda provides technical assistance to the Government of Uganda to achieve sustainable food, nutrition, and income security through resilient, sustainable, and inclusive agrifood systems. The Forest Management and Sustainable Charcoal Value Chain (FM&SCVC) project is being implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in central, mid-western and northern parts of Uganda. Among the project activities include development of guidelines for: Woodland Forest Landscape Restoration.

Reporting Lines

Under the general supervision of FAO Representative in Uganda, and the direct technical supervision of the Project Coordinator and Project Lead Technical Officer and the incumbent will work closely with Technical Advisor for Standards Development and Certification.

Technical Focus

The project plans to recruit a incumbent with specialized expertise in woodland forest landscape restoration to support review of the above-mentioned guidelines already drafted by the FAO staff and key partners in the forest sector. The Woodland and Natural Forest Landscape Restoration Specialist will lead the planning, implementation and monitoring of the project assigned to him/her.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Analyse the adequacy and appropriateness of the technical content of the woodland forest landscape restoration guideline. • Source and recommend additional appropriate pictures, graphs, tables, etc, to include in woodland forest landscape restoration guideline. • Edit and correct the structural and grammatical errors in both guidelines. • Provide a list of recommendations to improve both guidelines.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• A university degree related to forestry, forest management and natural resources management. • A minimum five years’ experience in natural forest management and restoration. • Working knowledge of English.
