We are seeking to fill a Fixed Term Position of Assistant Storekeeper (G3) based in WFP UNHRD Base in Brindisi, Italy.

UNHRD is a network of depots located in Ghana, Italy, UAE, Malaysia, Spain and Panama that procures, manages and transports emergency supplies for the humanitarian community. It is a one stop shop for partners, offering free storage, procurement, transport, handling, and technical field expertise. This position will be based in Brindisi, Italy and will report to the UNHRD Brindisi Logistics Officer.

JOB PURPOSE

Under the supervision and guidance Logistics Officer, the Assistant Storekeeper will support receipt/dispatch and verification of Non-Food Items (NFI) in order to maximize quality of warehouse operations and mitigate losses, and to support the best storage management practices in compliance with WFP warehouse standards and established guidelines. The selected incumbent will be expected to demonstrate good attention to details, teamwork and proactivity skills with the ability to communicate effectively and work well with a wide range of individuals.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive)

  • Support receipt/dispatch commodities including transhipment (truck to truck) against official approved documentation (e.g. waybills and/or delivery notes) ensuring accuracy in physical count of commodities including the quality in compliance with the established standards.
  • Prepare and verify warehouse and transport documents, and maintain confidential files and accurate warehouse transaction records, to ensure immediate reporting on commodity movements in line with the corporate requirements.
  • Support daily warehouse closing reconciliation and accurate inventory checks in compliance with the warehouse management requirements.
  • Perform daily inspections and prepare reports on the quantity and quality of the commodities received/dispatched and handled, and refer to the supervisor for appropriate action.
  • Support implementation of appropriate measures to safeguard food and non-food commodities to ensure quality control using standard preventive measures in line with WFP established procedures and authorization received from the supervisor.
  • Monitor condition of the warehouse and commodities and take appropriate actions to support efficient warehouse space-utilization and well-organized commodity storage following WFP warehouse standards

SPECIFIC POST REQUIREMENTS (As required by the Hiring Manager)

Essential:

  • Some experience monitoring or supporting various aspects of logistics operations.
  • Some experience in supporting warehouse management.
  • Some experience in supporting inventory management.
  • Driver’s license/certification to operate forklifts.

Desirable:

  • Some experience in the humanitarian response.
  • Some knowledge of SAP ERP system.
  • Driver’s license/certification to operate commercial or light vehicles and experience driving safely and responsibly complying with the applicable driving laws
  • Some knowledge of the logistics and shipping services and/operations.
  • Knowledge of a second UN language (B level) , preferably Arabic, French, or Spanish .

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.

Language: Working knowledge (proficiency/FAO level C) of English.

Experience: Three or more years of experience in warehouse operations or relative business stream (including one year at G2 level for internal candidates).
