• Well-being of staff members and mission personnel improved by providing wel-fare services and activities in efficient, effective, timely, and professional man-ner; • Work relationships improved and stress-related health problems in the mission minimized; • Productivity at large improved. • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development dur-ing the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed. • The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counter-parts, including Implementing Partners (IPs); • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities partici- pated in and capacities developed

    Under the direct supervision of the Timbuktu RAO and Chief Welfare Unit, the UN 
    Volunteer’s main responsibilities will be in the area of welfare, recreation management and 
    development. He/she will undertake the following tasks:

• Assist in developing programmes designed to improve the quality of life of staff members within the mission area; • Assist in monitoring environmental factors that could lead to unhealthy lifestyles; • Increase staff awareness and information about social and recreational opportu-nities available in the mission by contributing to • the induction training of new staff, producing a guide to local amenities, regularly updating information posted on the intranet, • facilitating access to housing information, and developing links with local re-sources as appropriate; • Improve the recreational and social opportunities of staff by convening staff wel-fare and recreation committees; • Assist in developing regular recreational activities for staff (such as outings, film nights and other social events) and working in • partnership with administration to secure standard welfare facilities (gym, restau-rant, PX, laundry services, banking facilities, • mediation room, common recreation areas etc.); • Establish an information resource center and organize a book/DVD library for staff; • Facilitate increased welfare initiatives in his/her designated duty station by sup-porting welfare and recreation committees and • fostering the development of new sub-committees; • Review monthly financial reports of welfare and recreation committee; • Participate in developing the expertise, profile, and capacity of the Welfare Unit by identifying funding opportunities; • Assist in assessing welfare and recreation requirements within the mission and act as a focal point for welfare initiatives within • his/her designated duty station; • Organize memorial services for international civilian staff in the event of death and act as focal point/resource person for the • family of the deceased staff member; • Participate in weekly meetings led by RAO Timbuktu for all MSD sections; • Participate in monthly meetings led by Chief, Welfare Unit in which all Welfare Officers participate; • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Welfare Unit and RAO Timbuk-tu; • When working with national personnel or (non-)governmental counterparts, the Volunteer is
trongly encouraged to set aside dedicated time for training, coach-ing, mentoring and capacity development.

    Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: 

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publica- tions/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Sound knowledge of social events organization; Basic knowledge of psychology and stress management

Mali is a non-family duty station. Adequate housing is available for rent at US$ 500-1500 per month. The national currency is the Franc CFA. Visa credit cards are ac-cepted in some hotels and larger shops. Mali is a country prone to malaria, so mos-quito nets are highly recommended. Basic medicines are available from pharmacies, but provision needs to be made for specialized medication.

Security recommendations from the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) must be followed by all UN personnel in the course of their assignments in Mali.

For the sake of a rewarding experience, UN volunteers in MINUSMA carry out their duties with flexibility, commitment, and a willingness to live and work in challenging conditions including heat and limited water and electricity supply.
