BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The Staff Wellness Division aspires to promote and advocate in WFP the highest corporate occupational health standards by managing health risks, offering evidence-based, quality-controlled occupational health services, and nurturing trust in clients through professionalism with the highest regard for confidentiality and privacy. The Wellness Division has grown in scope and staffing over the last 5 years, and a key need is for its numerous ongoing activities globally, regionally, and locally to be coordinated and promoted in a cohesive manner. Given the varied nature of its activities, WEL requires a communications program that works collaboratively and strategically across the Division to collate activities and inform staff and management about its activities in a coherent, comprehensive, and meaningful manner. The communications officer will support the WEL Division and the WEL Strategy both internally and externally in coordination with the People and Culture Coordination Unit. This includes the design and implementation of a WEL communications strategy (internal and external), the creation and dissemination of multimedia WEL informational material, responding to inquiries, coordinating promotional events and coordinating with partners on campaigns and awareness raising activities. The communications officer will liaise closely with CAM (WFP Communications unit) to develop a WEL visual identity while ensuring all materials adhere to WFP house style and branding guideline. The WEL COMMS officer thinks creatively and has excellent communication, advocacy, and interpersonal skills.

ACCOUNTABITLITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

In the WEL Division organigram the WEL Communications Officer is located in the WEL Front Office and reports to the Staff Health Protection Adviser.

With a view towards developing both an external and internal WEL Communication Strategy in this initial period, the COMMS officer in WEL will:

  1. Develop an effective and functional internal communication strategy with particular emphasis on:

  2. Horizontally supporting internal communication of individual activities between WEL Units (i.e., WELM, WELC, WELI and the Front Office).

  3. Vertically facilitating and nurturing communication between HQ colleagues and colleagues in RBx and COs engaging and responding to the voice of our colleagues in the field.
  4. Prepare and facilitate WEL team network building for WEL staff working on the same team in same and different regions.

  5. Cultivate a community and begin to build capacity of WEL staff on all aspects of communications, providing advice, guidance, and training to ensure consistent, quality communications activities that deliver the desired impact – specifically with Regional Staff Counsellors and Regional Medical Officers.

  6. Work with regional and country-based communications, HR, ergonomist and staff counselors on promoting use of the Wellbeing Platform.
  7. Advise on communications to promote and support the recently completed 2022 UNHI WBG Staff Health and Safety Risk Assessment.
  8. Advise on communications related to the strengthening of the Staff Wellness Committees and the CO Wellness Focal Points (re-purposed Peer Support Volunteers).
  9. Design and deliver webinars and live events sponsored by WEL at global, regional, and country based levels
  10. Manage existing Communication & Reports focal points in the Division to ensure the Division’s global communications are cohesive, coordinated and benefit from communications best practices.
  11. Ensure the Division’s global communications are aligned with WFP’s & WEL’s strategic vision and mandate, monitor performance against objectives, and ensure appropriate development to enable high performance.
  12. Prepare tailored multimedia communications products to effectively disseminate Wellness messages/achievements to target audiences. This includes but is not limited to the production of a quarterly community of practice newsletter (Heartbeat)
  13. Generate and/or facilitate the production of donor specific visibility content when requested/appropriate.
  14. Support WEL leadership to maximize the use of WEL data for advocacy and resource purposes. Engage internal partners to contribute to implementation of the WEL communications strategy when appropriate.
  15. Work in close collaboration with counterparts to align activities and ensure a coherent approach to communications within WFP. In particular, work with COMMS focal points in the Workplace Culture Department to ensure alignment of communications activities
  16. Mitigate any reputational risk arising from the work of the WEL function (internally & externally) through anticipation of potential perception issues and tailoring communications to offset this risk.
  17. Monitor global traditional and social media on issues related to WEL activities.
  18. Any other duties as required

DELIVERABLES QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  1. Internal WEL Communication Strategy that addresses communication between Units in HQ, amongst COs within RBx and between RBx and HQ
  2. Outline of future External WEL Communication Strategy
  3. Successful implementation of engagement and communications initiatives to achieve functional change process
  4. Update Staff Wellness Committee Templates for CO Wellness Strategies in line with the 2020-2024 WEL Strategy
  5. Support provided to HQ branches, RBs & COs to conceptualize strategic achievement of outlined objectives in relation to key events and the launching of thematic communication strategies & projects, and Wellbeing Platform pages.
  6. Reputational risk mitigated whenever potential problems/negative impressions may arise
  7. Supervise the work of a contracted/consultant videographer in the production of visual communication material
  8. Any other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education: Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or related field (Advanced degree an asset)

Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years' relevant experience in a communications role

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of design programs/software (e.g. Adobe Suite, Video production, etc.) required to create multimedia communications products.

Languages:

English (proficient)

French (preferable)
