Background
UN Women is currently undertaking an evaluation of its Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) work in the West and Central Africa region. The main purpose of this regional evaluation is to contribute to enhancing UN Women’s approach to women´s economic empowerment in West and Central Africa. This thematic evaluation will aim to assess the relationships between the various strategies and actual changes in women’s lives. It will identify good practices and contribute to organizational learning in the area of WEE (at the regional and corporate levels) to inform future programming in the SP 2022-2025 (WEE strategies and signature interventions).

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance of the Regional Evaluation Specialist as a team leader, the Research Assistant will work with the Women Economic Empowerment Consultant to complete the following tasks, duties and responsibilities:
Preparation phase:
- Upload documents related to WEE programs in the region for desk review
- Establish a list of potential interview respondents
- Prepare mapping of WEE interventions
Conduct phase:
- Prepare agenda of interviews
- Invite respondents to interviews
- Collect relevant documents and upload them on shared drive
- Provide support for data collection, data entry and record keeping
- Note-taking from interviews and focus-group discussions
At the end of the assignment, the Research Assistant will present the following deliverables:
- A visual mapping of WEE interventions in the region
- A list of all consulted documents
- A list of all interviewed participants
Performance evaluation
Research Assistant’s performance will be evaluated based on timeliness, responsibility, initiative, communication, accuracy, and quality of the products delivered.

Required Skills and Experience
Education
- Bachelor degree in social sciences or equivalent
Experience
- At least 3 year experience as Research Assistant-e or equivalent
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge of gender and gender equality programs
- Knowledge of a geographic mapping software is an important asset
- Familiarity with MS Office, mapping applications and TEAMS, ZOOM, etc…
Language requirements
- Fluency in French and English
Payment
Payment will be disbursed upon approval of deliverables
- 30% upon submission of inception report.
- 40% after preliminary findings presentation
- 30% upon submission of draft report
