Duties and Responsibilities Organization Setting:

UN Environment is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UN Environment Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition.

The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) is globally recognized as an approach for recognizing, demonstrating and capturing nature’s values in decision-making in order to improve human wellbeing. TEEB, now in Phase III, is working on three interlinked activity areas which build on previous phases of the initiative: (1) ‘TEEB Country Studies’ identify and then value the ecosystem services and biodiversity that are vital to meeting a country’s policy priorities; (2) ‘TEEB for Agriculture & Food’ (TEEBAgriFood) explores the complex interaction between agricultural, human and ecological systems through the comprehensive evaluation of the impacts and dependencies arising from the production, processing and distribution of food on natural and social capital; and (3) ‘Natural Capital Accounting’ integrates environmental information into standard macro-level measures of economic activity.

The consultant will develop and maintain web pages for the project: (i) “Promoting biodiversity and sustainability in the agriculture and food sector through economic valuation (TEEB implementation)” in Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Malaysia and Thailand

The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of the Head of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Branch (BESB) and report directly to Head of the Economics of Nature (TEN) Unit.

Duties and Responsibilities:

In collaboration with the communications specialist, the consultant will provide the following services:

Activity 1: Maintain EU-PI TEEBAgriFood project websites

As part of the cross-cutting TEEBAgriFood EU-PI funded project on knowledge sharing, outreach and capacity building, the consultant is to maintain a dedicated webpage for TEEBAgriFood country implementation. The website is intended to be a ‘one-stop-shop’ for each of the partner countries, and new content will be provided on at least a monthly basis. Sub-pages are to be maintained for all EU-PI partner countries (Brazil, India, China, Indonesia, Mexico, Malaysia and Thailand).

Activity 2: Regular maintenance of the segments of the TEEB website pertaining to the EU-PI project

-Update and maintenance of the WordPress platform and Content Management System (CMS), to ensure optimal functioning and browsing experience

-Conduct a monthly backup and maintaining copies

-Remove disables plug-ins, broken links and inactive themes

-Address troubleshooting problems, including bugs, viruses and undertake any security monitoring in order to prevent malware attacks or hacks from occurring

-Restore structure and content in case of failures

-Advise on additional features/functions that can improve the website look, feel and appearance and, where possible, integrate those features/functions

-Source and integrate visual artwork from stock photo and video libraries

-Edit pre-recorded video material

Activity 3: Support virtual participation at TEEB conferences and workshops through IT supportive tools

-Coordinate virtual conferences with technological expertise

-Record, edit and upload virtual sessions

Qualifications/special skills A first level degree in¿Computer Science, Web development and Management, Geography, Fine Arts, Graphic Design or related subjects is required. An advanced degree in related fields would be an added advantage. A minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience in the field of web development and management/graphic design/layout/publication/visual arts is required. Proven ability to work with latest graphic design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite) and ability to deliver timely and high quality results under tight deadlines is desirable. Excellent coordination skills, and an ability to follow instructions, work under pressure as a part of a team, or independently as required and ensure excellent attention to detail is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, oral and written English is required.
