Duties and Responsibilities This consultancy assignment is with the United Nations Global Compact Office (UNGCO), located in the Global Operations Team in China.

The United Nations Global Compact is the United Nations' voluntary corporate sustainability initiative in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption. It revolves around ten universal principles drawn from four key international instruments in these areas.

The Global Compact Office is the United Nations entity responsible for the overall management and coordination of the Global Compact initiative. It pursues two complementary objectives: (1) making the Global Compact and its principles part of business strategy and operations everywhere; and (2) facilitating cooperation among key stakeholders by promoting partnerships and collective action in support of United Nations, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Responsibilities:

- Draft a workplan for a website development, including a detailed breakdown of tasks and timelines for the front-end design, back-end database design, code development, testing, and quality assurance. Review the workplan on a regular basis to determine how the project is progressing in terms of schedule, budget, and make timely adjustments.

- Develop and oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the bilingual website showcasing the “BRI for the SDGs” Best Practice Report and repository with related consultants like the website development consultant. This includes conceptualizing the website structure, designing the front-end user interface, and creating the back-end database.

- Write and test clean, efficient, and reliable code for the website, including constructing the base or engine on which the repository and database will run, creating unit tests and validation procedures to ensure quality, and documenting technical specifications.

- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather and incorporate feedback on the website’s functionality, design, and content, ensuring it meets the project objectives and user needs.

- Monitor and troubleshoot technical issues and bugs that may arise on the website, regularly conducting quality assurance tests and implementing fixes and updates as necessary.

- Liaise with vendors and external partners as needed for website hosting, maintenance, and enhancements, ensuring quality assurance on all updates and maintenance requests.

- Keep up-to-date with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and trends in web development, making recommendations for improvements to the website’s design, functionality, and user experience.

- Collaborate with the website development consultant through consultation meetings to ensure that the website is well-functioned.

- Participate in regular project meetings, prepare updates, or presentations on the project progress and calibrate with corrective actions whenever needed to ensure the project timeline is strictly followed.

- Summarize the meeting minutes and recordings of the organized activities and events, including but not limited to consultations, dialogues, interviews, and training.

- Archive and update all the developed materials in an efficient and well-organized manner.

- Perform other duties as assigned by the project manager to support the successful implementation of the project.

Qualifications/special skills A first level degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or any other related field, is required. An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant field is desirable. A minimum of five years of experience in software development, website design and development, database management, or web content management, is required A minimum of least three years of experience in managing multilingual websites is required. Experience using programming skills in relevant programming languages, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or PHP is desirable. Experience in developing and managing databases using MySQL or other similar relational database management systems is desirable. Experience with cloud computing platforms, such as AWS or Azure, and experience in deploying web applications is desirable.

Languages Fluency in English and Chinese is required.
