Support web technology projects and ensure enhanced service delivery.

You have:

  • University degree in information technologies, digital communication, or a combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in information systems management, programming, and technical writing.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Experience with PHP, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, XML, and Drupal is required.
  • Applicants must possess technological awareness and willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and attention to detail.

Result of Service The Individual Contractor will be expected to support various ongoing web technology projects and operations to ensure enhanced and uninterrupted service to the Secretariat.

Work Location This contract will be fulfilled from home and no travel will be required.

Expected duration 6 months

Duties and Responsibilities The Individual Contractor will be responsible for performing the following duties, as required:

  • Provides technical support on relevant websites and workspaces (Drupal 7 and 9) including applying security updates, resolving bugs and performing maintenance and recovery; requests, implements, provides operational support and maintains various other applications;
  • Assess and implement the upgrade of specific small/medium-sized Drupal 7 websites to Drupal 9.
  • Develops further Drupal functionalities and modules as necessary based on needs assessments;
  • Assists with webpage layout using the Bootstrap framework;
  • Assists with needs assessment for new systems (including modifications to existing information systems); Performs ongoing reviews with users and other developers and responds to requirements;
  • Provides helpdesk technical support to the Secretariat staff on various web-related issues on an ad-hoc basis;
  • Assists in the preparation of technical and user documentation, as well as in the production of training materials;
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Academic Qualifications:

A university degree in information technologies, digital communication or a combination of academic education and qualifying work experience may be accepted.

Experience:

A minimum of three years of experience in information systems management, programming, technical writing and related area. Experience with PHP, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, XML, and technologies such as Drupal, Bootstrap, Git is required.

Language:

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.

Additional Information The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is an environmental treaty of the United Nations, which provides a global platform for the conservation and sustainable use of migratory animals and their habitats. The Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) is one of the largest regional Agreements developed under the framework of CMS dedicated to the conservation of migratory waterbirds and their habitats across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, Greenland and the Canadian Archipelago.

The Individual Contractor will work under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Common CMS and AEWA Information Management, Communication and Awareness-Raising Unit.
