Overview

Support GWOPA's communications through web content creation and migration.

You have:

  • A minimum of three years of working experience in developing and managing websites with WordPress content manager is required.
  • Fluency in oral and written English and Spanish language are required.
  • A high school diploma is required. Relevant technical training in Web Development is desirable.
  • Strong portfolio of design work related to water and sanitation or development issues is an added plus.
  • Knowledge of PHP and MySQL database, TypeScript, or modern JavaScript is desirable.

Result of Service GWOPA’s communications efforts aim to increase awareness and appreciation of WOPs, give visibility to GWOPA´s various programmes, project activities, results, and regional WOP platforms. The objective of this consultancy is to support the objectives through the creation, migration and launch of web content that is engaging and user-friendly, with special focus on boosting the visibility of the regional WOP platform in LAC (WOP-LAC) on GWOPA’s website following the MoU and jointly developed communications action plan between GWOPA and WOP-LAC. The consultant will give guidance to these inter-related areas of work, advising GWOPA on related strategies and good practices that will support updates.

Work Location Buenos Aires (Argentina), working remotely

Expected duration The Individual Contractor work full time over a period of 6 months.

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the agency for human settlements mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. Together with governments, the agency is responsible for promoting and consolidating collaboration with all partners, including local authorities, and private and non-governmental organizations in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UN-Habitat leads the Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA), which helps water and sanitation operators help one another. GWOPA is an international network created in 2009 to support operators through Water Operator’s Partnerships (WOPs) – not-for-profit peer support partnerships between water and sanitation operators aimed at enhancing their capacity and performance to provide a better service to more people in support of the SDGs. The GWOPA Secretariat is currently hosted by the Government of Germany.

Under the overall supervision of the OiC of GWOPA, the guidance of the Communications Consultant, and in close collaboration with the Web Development and Visual Design Consultants based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the incumbent will launch produced visual content on GWOPA’s website. To maximize impact, the Individual contractor may have to modify or create the templates currently used on the website and ensure overall harmony and functionality. The Individual contractor is expected to advise on good and common practices on visual communication to maximize impact of activities. The Individual contractor will also migrate all the content from the current server to Amazon Web Services and thus support the revamp of the design of the GWOPA website. The Individual contractor will, as such, undertake the following main tasks:

Promotion and hosting of content

•Web design and launch WOP case studies from WOP-LAC using the template and text provided by the Secretariat

•Migrate the content of the GWOPA’s website from the current web hosting server to the temporary (UNON) and final web hosting servers •Rebuild the website according to the language of the new CMS software on the Web Services server •In collaboration with the Knowledge Management and Database Consultants, ensure a seamless flow between the revised WOPs database and the GWOPA website, including data provided by WOP-LAC and ensuring its proper placement and promotion •Migrate the content from the developed Congress virtual venue to the GWOPA’s website •Adapt and update the Global WOPs Congress webspace and related pages to ensure all content is visible and accessible

Qualifications/special skills Competency: Candidates will be evaluated on their experience within the required field. Strong portfolio of design work related to water and sanitation or/and development issues is an added plus. Candidates may be asked to show examples of their work. Candidates should be able to adapt to existing graphic styles and codes of UN-Habitat.

Academic Qualifications: High school diploma is required. Relevant technical training in Web Development is desirable.

Experience: A minimum of three years of working experience is required in developing and managing websites with WordPress content manager. Experience with UN projects is desirable. Knowledge of PHP and MySQL database, TypeScript, or modern JavaScript.
