Duties and Responsibilities Background, Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships:

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the agency for human settlements mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat helps the urban poor by transforming cities into safer and healthier places with better opportunities. It works with organizations at every level, including all spheres of government, civil society and the private sector. This post is located in the Governing Bodies Secretariat under the Office of the Executive Director.

The Office of the Executive Director is responsible for the formulation of a clear and consistent vision for UN-Habitat , as well as the policies necessary to effectuate that vision; establishing operational priorities and strategies, in consultation with senior management of the programme ; ensuring effective management and accountability of the programme and budget; and engaging with key Member States and other stakeholders to secure both political and financial support for UN-Habitat.

The Governing Bodies Secretariat is responsible for organizing and servicing of the meetings of the Governing Bodies of UN-Habitat which include the UN-Habitat Assembly, Executive Board, and the Committee of Permanent Representatives. It is also responsible for high level liaison and communication with Governments and Permanent Missions and for providing guidance and advice to the Organization on diplomatic and political matters.

The focus of this ToR is strengthened communications with Member States and Governments through timely web updates for the second session of the UN-Habitat Assembly, Executive Board, CPR sessions, ad hock working groups, bureau meetings and any other meeting documents as they are necessary to the Secretariat of the Governing Bodies.

The Individual Contractor reports to Mr. Chris Mensah, the Chief of the Governing Bodies Secretariat / Secretary to the Governing Bodies.

Objective of the Consultancy

The Website Assistant supports with updating content and uploading documents related to the UN-Habitat’s governing bodies and programmatic work; applying relevant metadata; providing preliminary advice on appropriate webpages layouts; and ensuring quality control of web content and testing new website features.

Responsibility

Under the supervision of the Chief of Governing Bodies Secretariat, the individual contractor will perform the following duties: - Support implementation of communication strategies to reach and engage stakeholders and partners through increased visibility of UN-Habitat’s work and knowledge on the website. - Ensure content is accurate, complete, engaging, and renders correctly. - Continuously ensure that the editorial content is up to date. - Ensures quality control of content, presentation, and branding, including proofreading and reformatting content; checking links and image sizes; checking for “alt” text and link description; and for adherence to accessibility guidelines; - Upload documents, publications, photos and other media files; - Test and provide feedback on new website features, in coordination with the technical team; - Apply metadata tags to web content as required; - Continuously monitor web performance indicators, flag technical issues, and propose improvements; - Assist in developing templates and training documents to facilitate quality content creation and advises staff on their use; - Collaborate in developing and implementing web content policy, procedures, and standards. - Establish and maintain relationships communication focal points, programme managers, and other key internal stakeholders. - Support in creating Microsoft meeting links for the Secretariat of Governing Bodies. - Update websites’ contents of the African Clean Cities Platform (ACCP) and the Waste Wise Cities (WWC) upon request of waste management team. - Create Arabic page on ACCP website. - Edit videos of awareness raising, good practices, waste pickers story, etc. - Other requested tasks from the waste management team.

Qualifications/special skills High school diploma or equivalent is required.

A bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, computer science, or equivalent is desirable. A working experience in communication, marketing, computer science, or equivalent is required. 3 years of experience in web/or social media content or marketing is required

Languages Fluency in oral and written English is required.
