UNICEF LCO web platform is a key channel for achieving UNICEF’s strategic communications goals, setting targets in line with DOC’s recommended KPIs for digital communications and engagement.

UNICEF Lebanon is seeking to revamp the content of its website, to update the content in the programme landing pages; render the language less technical and more user-friendly; enhance access and navigation experience of users to locate information; and better highlight UNICEF’s work. The current information is outdated given the radical shifts in the context of Lebanon, and the priorities of UNICEF’s response in the current situation and emergency context.

The consultant is required to adhere to UNICEF’s mandatory Procedures for Establishing and Managing UNICEF's Public-Facing Websites, UNICEF brand and Social Media Channels.

How can you make a difference?

The consultant is expected to deliver the below within two months :

Tasks/Milestone 1:

Rewriting and populating high quality, appealing, and audience friendly web content (programmatic, emergency, and campaign) for UNICEF LCO website

Deliverable/Output: Deliver high quality written web content

Tasks/Milestone 2:

Updating, editing, proofreading, and reviewing all existing website content starting with the priorities agreed on

Deliverable/Output: Previous content is accurate well composed and improved

Tasks/Milestone 3:

Coordinate with relevant staff (e.g. programmes, communication, operations, etc.) to effectively plan and write all programmatic overviews and programme pages.

Deliverable/Output: Coordination mechanisms are applied

Tasks/Milestone 4:

Develop compelling social media messages to promote the newly written content. (Messages focused on the situation of children and families in Lebanon, the impact of UNICEF programmes, Campaigns pages, newly published Stories, and Press Releases)

Deliverable/Output: Social media messages are delivered for promoting the website on social media platforms and increasing web traffic

Tasks/Milestone 5:

Oversee layout (images, graphics, videos, and artwork) of all webpages, ensuring content displays correctly. Propose improvements as needed for easy navigation and accessibility.

Deliverable/Output: Improved content display, navigation, and user experience on all pages.

Tasks/Milestone 6:

Share content per programme immediately for review.

Deliverable/Output: Written Programme overviews and subpages delivered

Tasks/Milestone 7:

Ensure the content produced is user-friendly and keeps visitors on the site, encouraging them to read/ watch/ listen to more, and ultimately to take action. It will also consider search engine optimization (SEO).

Deliverable/Output: Ensure all information is user-friendly language, and content displays correctly.

Tasks/Milestone 8:

Collaborate internally with communication team focal points (e.g. Web UNV, Social Media UNV, Communication Officers, Graphic Designer) to improve article or pages presentation, sourcing images and artwork, and photographers as needed.

Deliverable/Output: Coordination mechanisms are applied

Tasks/Milestone 9:

Ensure content is up-to-date and the information is accurate to a standard in line with the organisation’s Digital Content Strategy.

Deliverable/Output: Website is up to date

Tasks/Milestone 10:

Creating content for other pages on the website as needed.

Deliverable/Output: Deliver new web content

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • University degree in Communication/external relations.
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience working in communication, emergency, or media.

Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required:

  • High command in English
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Understands the current context of Lebanon
  • Familiar with the work of UNICEF and UNICEF Lebanon - including the nuances of technical terms.
  • Content editing advanced skills, including proven ability in developing compelling stories and narratives.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work with professionals to create compelling web content.
  • Social media content creation.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and in close collaboration with internal and external partners. Ability to cope with pressure and deliver within strict deadlines.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
