This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

The Web Developer role focuses on the development, deployment, and maintenance of a diverse range of applications. This can include local applications, web applications, and mobile apps, along with the creation of reports, analytics, dashboards, and other solutions. To do that, the Web Developer will follow UN established standards for web development, IT technologies, programming languages, and tools, also preparing, maintaining, and referencing project-base agreed technical, user, and functional specifications and documentations.

Under the supervision of the Associate Information Systems Officer, the Web Developer is responsible to perform the following functions: 1. Develops websites and applications as per the UNICT strategy and ESCWA ́s needs, following security and data protections schemes. 2. Maintains, upgrades, or enhances existing websites and applications and their integration to interrelated systems and program elements. 3. Organizes and performs unit and integrated testing, designing, and utilizing test bases; assists users in acceptance testing. 4. Interpret user requirements and translate these into systems specifications. 5. Conducts research on new technologies as requested; keeps abreast of developments in the field; assists in testing and evaluating new products and technologies. 6. Support in data visualization and data analytics (Business Intelligence) initiatives. 7. Prepare technical and user documentation for products, as well as training materials and conduct technical presentations. 8. Maintain functional specifications for websites, programs and procedures developed and/or modified. 9. Provide support for deployed websites including version management, data recovery and deployment. 10. Trains staff on completed products. 11. Performs other related tasks as required per UN ICT or ESCWA’s strategy.

a multi-developer environment with knowledge of web development (Drupal core and custom modules ,HTML, Cascading Style Sheet (CSS), and any JavaScript dialect/frameworks); and understanding of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) concepts and principles.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in ESCWA. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.

Conditions of Service for national UN Volunteers:

The contract lasts for the period indicated above with possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment. The applicable Volunteer Living Allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents - except for UN Community Volunteers), as well as final repatriation (if applicable). Furthermore, in non-family duty stations that belong to hardship categories D or E, as classified by the ICSC, a Well-Being Differential (WBD) will be provided monthly.
