Overview

Develop data-driven and workflow web application solutions for UN ESCWA.

You have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of work experience in the computer software industry as a full-time developer is required.
  • Web development using ASP.NET and/or .Net Core, HTML5, CSS, JQuery, Node.JS, etc. (C#) is required.
  • Expert knowledge of database design, management, and administration using SQL Server technologies and/or other industry-standard database technologies is required.
  • Knowledge of open-source data visualization libraries such as Apache ECharts, D3.js is required.
  • Fluency in English is required, knowledge of a second official United Nations language is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of IIS is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of different software version control and repository tools, preferably GIT is an added advantage.
  • Experience with dashboarding tools such as PowerBI or Tableau is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with web mapping design tools is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of Xamarin for mobile development is an added advantage.
  • Experience in workflow application development using .Net or other tools is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of Python and/or R language and environment for statistical computing and graphics is an added advantage.

Result of Service The main purpose of the contractor is to provide various data-driven and workflow web application solutions using the latest software development tools and technologies.

Work Location UN-House ESCWA

Expected duration 6 Months

Duties and Responsibilities Under the overall guidance of the Chief, ICTS, and direct supervision by the team leader, applications support, and development, the contractor will be responsible for performing tasks related to the Jousour platform. Jousour aims to increase commitment to creating opportunities for unemployed young men and women and support them to enhance their employability prospects. This initiative serves as a bridge between key stakeholders in the private sector and young men and women looking for opportunities in the Arab region.

In particular, the contractor will perform the following tasks:

  • analysis, design and development of new web and/or software applications as per the UN ICT strategy and ESCWA´s needs;
  • develops detailed system and other functional specifications and user documentation;
  • maintains, upgrades or enhances existing user systems and integration of many interrelated systems and program elements;
  • development of data-driven web-based data visualization and data analytics solutions to support ESCWA initiatives;
  • organizes and performs unit and integrated testing, designing and utilizing test bases; assists users in acceptance testing;
  • develops training materials, technical and user manuals;
  • trains staff on completed systems/applications;
  • any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

o Web development using ASP.NET and/or .Net Core, HTML5, CSS, JQuery, Node.JS, etc. - (C#); o Expert knowledge of database design, management, and administration using SQL Server technologies and/or other industry-standard database technologies o Knowledge of open-source data visualization libraries such as Apache ECharts, D3.js for producing dynamic, interactive web-based data visualization solutions Knowledge of the following skills will be an added advantage:

o Knowledge of IIS; o Different software version control and repository tools, preferably GIT; o Dashboarding tools such as PowerBI or Tableau; o Web Mapping design tools. o Xamarin for mobile development; o workflow application development using .Net, or other tools o Knowledge of Python and/or R language and environment for statistical computing and graphics

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second official United Nations language is an advantage.

Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
