Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 140 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with UN Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community. UNDRR Communications Content & Channels Team is seeking a consultant to help create, maintain, consolidated and improve its expansive library of online material. In addition to content curation, there is also a substantial amount of content strategy and user engagement. This role is 100% remote, the successful candidate will be available to collaborate with a team based in Central Europe. The successful candidate will assist the UNDRR Content and Channels team, responsible for more than dozen Drupal 10-based websites (multi-domain) that advocate for reducing disaster risk. Among those sites is PreventionWeb.net, the global knowledge sharing platform for disaster risk reduction and resilience. As an example of activities, the successful candidate would be involved with, during the last year the Content and Channels team: Has implemented the Gutenberg visual web editor for Drupal. Has studied user journeys across UNDRR.org and revised key user paths. Continues to refactor the platform’s theme layers and information architecture to support more performant and accessible content. Began developing a modular web component library to support holistic theming and content patterns across all UNDRR web properties. Within limits of delegated authority, the consultant will be responsible for the following duties: 1. Support content creation, page building and design across UNDRR’s websites 2. Provide training, guidance and documentation on web best practice 3.
