Implement water and sanitation projects and provide technical expertise.
You have:
- Minimum of bachelor's degree or its equivalent in civil engineering, water and/or wastewater engineering, environmental engineering, or Computer science or IT or related discipline coupled with trainings in wastewater treatment/management is required.
- At least five (05) years of relevant experience in the field of water and sanitation is required including at least 3 years in management of wastewater/water treatment systems is required.
- A certificate in wastewater treatment plant operation, maintenance and repair is required.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
- Knowledge of second official UN language is added advantage.
- Previous experience in UN peacekeeping or other field operation is desirable.
- Familiarity with use of computers and office software packages and handling of web-based management systems is desirable.
Result of Service- Full implementation of FRIM and SMART/IOT infrastructure and software and implementation of the Water & Wastewater Pillar of the DOS Environmental Strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities The WatSan Specialist is responsible for the implementation of water, sanitation (WatSan) and environmental projects mentioned below: - Implementation of the prime programme of providing technical advice and expertise in designing, installation, training, overseeing the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants Mission-wide; - Implementation of the FRIM project (Facilities Remote Infrastructure Monitoring) including specification of water and sanitation components, software, reporting requirements, advice on improvements, etc.; - Implementation of the Water & Wastewater Pillar of the Department of Operational Support Environmental Strategy specifically the implementation of the UNISFA wastewater management programme/project aimed at environmental protection against effects of wastewater; - Advice and monitoring the water abstraction, supply and treatment programme of the Mission; - Provision of expert training to UNISFA operators of water and wastewater treatment plants; - Provision of expert advice on water drilling projects of the Mission including specification of required drilling material and performance monitoring; - Provision of expert advice on the implementation of SMART/IOT projects in the camp reconstruction projects of the Mission; - Implementation of the WatSan elements of the Mission Environmental Action Plan (MEAP); - Provision of expert advice on water and wastewater quality monitoring programme of the Mission; - Provision of quality assurance services on the Camp Services Contractor in the fields of water, sanitation and environmental projects; - Performing other related consultancy duties in facilities & environmental management requirements.
Qualifications/special skills Minimum of bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in civil engineering, water and/or wastewater engineering, environmental engineering, or Computer science or IT ore related discipline coupled with trainings in wastewater treatment/management is required.
A higher university diploma coupled with the needed years of experience and necessary trainings in wastewater management can be considered. At least five (05) years of relevant experience in the field of water and sanitation is required including at least 3 years in management of wastewater/water treatment systems is required. Previous experience in UN peacekeeping or other field operation is desirable. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is required. Familiarity with use of computers and office software packages and handling of web-based management systems is desirable. A certificate in wastewater treatment plant operation, maintenance and repair is required.
Languages Fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of second official UN language is added advantage.
