Purpose of the Job:

The main purpose of this position is to conduct community bases assessment and work closely with providing training to communities to promote good Hygiene practices and at community level and to reduce the risk of communicable diseases related to water and sanitation by promoting good hygiene practice in communities and conducting hygiene awareness sessions and capacity building of communities on good hygiene practices and to distribute hygiene kits.

Responsibilities:

Generic responsibilities:

  • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  • Assist a range of support with the implementation of the CC portfolio according to plan of action
  • Implements independently procedures and activities within own function or core competency as delegated
  • Responsible for organizing and delivery of tasks in line with priorities and standards
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the specialist area of work in which technical assistance and support is being provided, in order to be most effective in supporting the team
  • Use initiative in day to day problem solving in line with agreed procedures, priorities and standards for the area of work
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
  • Ensure proper filing of documents
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement in your area of expertise.
  • Development of holistic and needs based programmes, including cash-based interventions and marked based programmes.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Participate in one-day training on the assessment tools as well as paper-based and mobile data collection as well as community based hygiene promotion session conducting.
  • Conduct initial and final KAP survey in targeted communities.
  • Conduct community level hygiene promotion session trainings.
  • Contribute to implement Cleaning campaigns (including community mobilization, community sessions, house-to-house visits,) from planning, to implementation and monitoring
  • Monitor proper hygiene practice among beneficiary and motivate them if required
  • Distribute the hygiene kits to the targeted beneficiaries and keeping documents of distribution
  • Produce reports regularly as per the project requirement
  • Contribute to any other HP activity implementation
  • Ensure that protection principles are upheld at all times while collecting data, and respect and ensure the confidentiality, privacy, and if necessary, anonymity of survey participants.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of data collected by conducting daily checks of completed questionnaires at the end of the day.
  • Abide with security protocols as instructed during data collection.
  • Upload electronically collected data to a password-protected server on a daily basis and request target achieved for each category in order to keep track of progress.
  • Data entry/transfer under the supervision. (if applicable)
  • Support Emergency Coordinator. Or PM to prioritize the emergency activities in different region such as field assessments, distribution, responses, PDM, risk monitoring and coordination.
  • Other duties as assigned by team supervisor.

Qualifications

Generic professional competencies:

  • Bachelor degree in public health or any other medical field
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in humanitarian/recovery context
  • Good understanding of Afghanistan culture, tradition and values.
  • Familiarity with target locations at province, district and community/village-level.
  • Knowledge and experience within a relevant administration, WASH or technical field and ideally a relevant community mobilization qualification
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities

Context related skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Fluent in Pashto and Dari languages.
  • Good knowledge of reading in English language.
  • Experience with Open Data Kit (ODK), Ona, Kobo Toolbox and mobile data collection preferred but not necessary.
  • Experience working on humanitarian programs and field assessments is preferable.
