Overview

Support the development and implementation of the WASH programme.

You have:

  • An advanced university degree in public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, sanitary engineering, or another relevant technical field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required.
  • One year of deployment in a developing country is required.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge and skills in rural water supply for low- and middle-income countries are required, including water safety and sustainability.
  • Knowledge and skills in rural sanitation for low- and middle-income countries are required, including sustainability and applying CATS principles.
  • Knowledge and skills in urban sanitation for low- and middle-income countries are required, including sustainability.
  • Knowledge and skills in handwashing with soap are required.
  • Knowledge and skills in WASH-in-Schools and Health Centres are required.
  • Knowledge and skills in menstrual hygiene management are required.
  • Knowledge of national government WASH policies, plans and strategies is required.
  • Knowledge of analysis of national budgets and expenditure for basic WASH, and related advocacy is required.
  • Knowledge of human rights and WASH is required.
  • Knowledge of gender equality and WASH is required.
  • Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree are a strong asset.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is desirable.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Contract

How can you make a difference?

Under the guidance and general supervision of the Child Survival and Development (CSD) Manager, the WASH Specialist supports the development, preparation, management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the WASH programme within the country programme. The Specialist provides technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes, to facilitate the administration and achievement of the WASH-related output results in the country programme.

  • Education: An advanced university degree in public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, sanitary engineering, or another relevant technical field.
  • Work Experience: At least 5 years of relevant work experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required. One year of deployment in a developing country is required.
