Overview

Implement day-to-day activities of WASH and shelter support.

You have:

  • Degree in Hydraulics engineering, water engineering, construction/civil engineering or any relevant field.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in humanitarian organizations preferably working in field roles like community mobilizer or social support staff.
  • WASH, shelter experience is a plus.
  • Work experience with government authorities and vulnerable beneficiaries.
  • Fluency in Tigrigna (local language) and fair understanding of English language.

Role and responsibilities

The purpose of the Social Support position is day-to-day implementation of the core competency and related project activities.

Generic responsibilities

  1. Ensure adherence to NRC policies.
  2. Ensure projects reach the most vulnerable and identify better ways to provide assistance.
  3. Ensure proper filing of documents both hard and soft copies.
  4. Carry out data collection as required.
  5. Prepare and file relevant documents according to procedures.
  6. Cooperate with relevant partners and local authorities.
  7. Work with WASH and shelter coordinator, Officer, Assistant and other NRC staff to implement WASH and shelter programme activities according to plan of action.
  8. Demonstrate commitment to NRC’s mission, vision, and values.

Specific responsibilities

  • Act as a first point of contact between NRC and the project participants and the whole affected population
  • Actively participate and ensure transparency and accountability during selection, verification, and registration of beneficiary.
  • Coordinate with community leaders and local authorities.
  • Ensure the most vulnerable populations are prioritized and conduct household verification visits.
  • Establish complaints and feedback mechanisms.
  • Training for selection and appeal committee.
  • Lead community mobilization and disseminate essential information before, during, and after NFI/cash distributions and related activities.
  • Follow-up and implement all field activities with in the project scope under the WASH, shelter program and support other core competency activities as required.
  • Ensure equal participation by all segments of the IDPs, Returnees, and hosting communities, taking into consideration issues regarding gender, age, and disability.
  • prepare and submit organized field reports to the WASH and Shelter coordinator or delegated staff.
  • Any other task relevant to the position as requested by the line manager.

Relevant Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in humanitarian organizations preferably working at field like community mobilizer, social support staff and related. WASH, shelter experience is a plus.
  • Work experience in working with government authorities and vulnerable beneficiaries.
  • Work experience in Ethiopian IDPs, returnees and refugee camp context and livelihoods projects are advantages.
  • Fluency in Tigrigna (local language) and fair understanding of English language.
