Purpose of the Job

The purpose of the WASH Officer position is to implement WASH Project program in the field. The WASH Officer is responsible for assessment of the area, plan, implement and monitoring of the project, make coordination meetings with communities, stakeholder, and beneficiaries on project sites and implementation of the activities. Prepare designs for all WASH infrastructures (Solar power water supply scheme, latrine upgrade/construction, hand-washing facilities, solid waste management container. The post holder will be reportable to project coordinator and PM.

Generic responsibilities

Specific responsibilities:

  • Have full understanding of all programs’ goals, objectives, implementation plan and expected result / output.
  • Responsible for assessment; project planning, implementation and monitoring.
  • Manage all the phases of the WASH activities including but not limited to; beneficiary selection, project planning, field assistant, project implementation and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting rapid emergency assessments in projects.
  • Prepare Bill of Quantities for WASH infrastructures (Solar power water supply scheme, latrine upgrade/construction, hand-washing facilities, solid waste management container and...Etc.)
  • Prepare drawing designs for all WASH infrastructures (Solar power water supply scheme, latrine upgrade/construction, hand-washing facilities, solid waste management container and...Etc.)
  • Experience in working in insecure/conflict environments.
  • Manage time effectively, prioritizing tasks and able to work to deadlines.
  • Good cultural, social, political and security knowledge of the area.
  • Proven communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with strong experience.
  • Prepare WASH technical documents and reports for the projects activities implementation.
  • Implement technical direction and ensure high technical quality of projects
  • Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
  • Participate in NRC staff and seminars and training, when scheduled
  • Work closely with all WASH projects stakeholders.
  • Provision of the monthly plan for his/her team.
  • Keeping on track recording of training data and program documents.
  • Participate actively in project coordination meetings.
  • Coordinate closely his or her activities with WASH coordinator.
  • Assist her/his direct supervisor/PM on planning, organizing, facilitating and monitoring of projects.
  • Be willing to travel throughout the districts and other provinces, this is primarily a field position and will require physical activity in a range of demanding natural environments and conditions.
  • Ensure the inclusion of cash-based interventions and marked based programmes in country and area-based strategies and their implementation across and within NRC’s core competencies
  • Provide an enabling environment for the implementation of cash-based interventions, including multi-purpose cash assistance, emergency cash responses.
  • Any others tasks assigned by supervisor.

Generic professional competencies:

  • Bachelor’s/Master degree in Water supply or civil engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience relevant position experience in WASH with International NGOs, UN Agencies or other International funded projects.
  • Familiar with water supply design software such as Water gem, EPANET, Water Cad and etc…
  • Best working knowledge and communication skill of English language
  • Good cultural, social, political and security knowledge of the area.
  • Have computer office programs, designing programs and other relevant software skills.
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Experience in hygiene promotion and hygiene kits distribution, engineering, environmental engineering and water management engineering background.
  • Knowledge of COVID-19 awareness, hygiene promotion and hand washing.
