The UNICEF Bukavu office is in the South Kivu Province in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The office is composed of about 28 people (permanent staff, fixed terms staff, temporary staff, consultants, and volunteers). The province is classified by UNICEF in "D" hardship classification, because of the emergency situation and the overall level of insecurity (existence of active armed groups, cholera, Ebola, COVID-19, natural disasters. The UNICEF Bukavu Office is a non-family duty station. Bukavu office benefit from the support of the Coordination for the Eastern Zone based in Goma.

In recent years, the humanitarian context in South Kivu province has been characterized by a deteriorating security situation, acute levels of malnutrition, recurrent epidemics, massive population displacements due to inter-community violence, and armed clashes. Since May 2020, the Hauts Plateaux region of Fizi, Itombwe, and Bijombo has been plagued by clashes involving armed groups and militias, accompanied by violence against civilians of a rare intensity in the region. To date, 690,000 people have been displaced due to inter-community conflicts. As a frontline actor, through its Rapid Response mechanism - UniRR implemented jointly with national NGOs, UNICEF and its partners are most often the first and only responders providing a timely response of essential household items (NFI) to meet the acute needs of displaced children. Since its start in December 2019, the UniRR program in DRC has provided assistance in NFI and WASH kits, including intimate hygiene kits, to 925,392 people in North Kivu, South Kivu, Ituri, and Tanganyika provinces. By being on the front lines and conducting multi-sectoral assessments, UniRR plays an early warning role to mobilize the entire humanitarian community.

• Suivre techniquement les activités des partenaires en fin d’assurer la qualité des interven- tions ;
• Apporter un appui à l’officier EHA dans la gestion administrative du programme ;
• Participer aux différents forum sectoriels EHA ;
• Organiser des visites programmatiques afin de s’assurer du niveau d’avancement des acti- vités conformément aux documents de programmes et Fiches techniques signés avec les partenaires.

Le bureau Unicef Bukavu compte environs 28 staffs. Dont des employés permanent, a durée déterminée, des temporaires et des consultants. Le bureau est situé dans la province du Sud Kivu, l’environnement du bureau est conviviale favorable a l’intégration et a l’apprentissage multiculturels. L’infrastructure routière du Sud Kivu est médiocre, on est obligé a prendre des avions pour se rendre dans certains territoires ou sont implémentés les activités soutenues par Unicef. Les téléphones portables et les services cellulaires sont largement disponibles. L’internet est limité mais disponible au bureau Unicef a Bukavu. Le UNV devra se rendre souvent sur terrain ou les conditions de vie sont simples. Il y a un certain nombre de services de sante disponibles avec possibilité d’options d’évacuation pour les maladies graves.
