Overview

Provide technical assessment for WASH facilities and support construction.

You have:

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Environmental/hydrogeology Engineering, water resource management, sanitation engineering, project management.
  • Minimum of 5 years of responsible professional work experience in WASH infrastructure quality assurance and inspection, Programme management, monitoring and evaluation and/or knowledge management related to WASH, Environment and Climate programmes in Low Middle Income Country setting.
  • At least 3 years professional work experience in the related field programmes in Uganda is preferable.
  • Previous work experience in UNICEF or UN agencies is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a local language is an asset.

Purpose of assignment:

In order to provide sustainable access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services in communities and to improve the enabling environment in schools and health facilities, UNICEF Uganda is planning to support the construction and rehabilitation of WASH facilities in selected districts in Western Region (Kikuube, Kamwenge and Isingiro) and the West Nile sub region ( Yumbe, Adjumani, Terego and Madi Okollo).

In preparation for the planned rehabilitation works, technical assessment of 91 existing sites with WASH facilities are required. These assessments will inform the development of detailed engineering designs and drawings, and Bills of quantities (BoQs) to ensure that proposed interventions are technically sound, cost-effective, climate-resilient and aligned with national standards and UNICEF WASH guidelines.

Scope of work:

The consultant will support the site assessment, KAP survey, quality assurance and documentation of progress of construction activities within the timeline specified for each project including reviewing of detailed design and documentation, preparing tendering documents, construction supervision for quality assurance and strengthening O&M WASH systems.
